Call or Text (352) 722-5295Valve covers on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
Under each cover is a pushrod-and-rocker valvetrain with four valves per cylinder and self-adjusting hydraulic lifters, so there is no lash to set while the cover is off. The heads are aluminum reverse-flow castings. The driver-side cover also carries the CCV oil separator, mounted between the secondary fuel filter and the firewall. On 2018-2022 pickups that separator is a filter-less unit with a removable lid, and 2016-2019 trucks may have mixed types. See our full Powerstroke lineup for the rest of the engine.
What fails and why
Valve cover gaskets get replaced when they leak or when the covers come off for valvetrain work like pushrods or springs. Before you blame the gasket for oil on the cover, look at the CCV. The separator loads up with oil mist and restricts, crankcase pressure rises, oil gets pushed into the turbo inlet and intercooler, and external oil seeps show up at seals. A new gasket will not fix pressure that is pushing oil out. Dieselhub recommends servicing the CCV every 30,000-40,000 miles; Ford's own 100,000-mile interval only covers certain DRW and chassis-cab trucks.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Everything on this page is OE-style replacement. The decisions are one side or both, and Mahle or Dorman. A single-side gasket makes sense when only one side is leaking. A full set makes sense when both covers are coming off, such as during pushrod or valve spring work on an F-250 or F-350 being built for power.
What we carry
Mahle offers complete valve cover gasket sets, VS50658 and VS50852, plus the VS50658SL left-side and VS50658SR right-side sets. Dorman offers individual gaskets: 263-201 for the left side and 263-200 for the right. Every one is listed for 2011-2020 6.7L Powerstroke engines, which covers your 2017-2019 truck. If you are unsure which Mahle complete set matches your engine, check the product listing or call us.
Fitment notes
Model year is not the issue here, since everything is listed for 2011-2020. Side is. Left and right are named from the driver's seat, so the left cover is the driver side, the one with the CCV separator. Order by side or buy a set. When the driver-side cover comes off, note which CCV separator your truck has, because 2016-2019 trucks may have mixed types. If anything is unclear, verify by VIN with our fitment help.
Frequently asked questions
Is the left valve cover gasket for the driver side?
Yes. Left and right are named from the driver's seat, so left is the driver side, the cover that carries the CCV oil separator. Dorman 263-201 and Mahle VS50658SL are the left-side parts.
Oil is seeping around my valve cover. Is it the gasket?
It might be, but check the CCV first. A restricted CCV separator raises crankcase pressure, and that shows up as external oil seeps at seals. Replace the gasket while a loaded CCV stays in place and the seep may come back.
Do I need to adjust the valves while the cover is off?
No. The 6.7L Powerstroke uses self-adjusting hydraulic lifters, so there is no lash service. Clean the sealing surfaces and install the new gasket.
How often does the CCV on these trucks need service?
Dieselhub recommends every 30,000-40,000 miles. Ford's only factory interval is about 100,000 miles, and it applies to 2016-2019 DRW and chassis-cab trucks. Since the separator sits on the driver-side cover, it is easy to inspect while you are already working there.
