Air filters on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The filter is the first thing air touches on this engine. From the factory it sits in a driver-side airbox, and everything downstream of it, from the CCV hose junction to the Garrett turbo compressor in the valley and the air-to-water charge air cooler, breathes whatever gets past it. The factory airbox and every aftermarket intake use their own element, so the right filter depends on which intake your truck runs, not just on its model year. When to change it

Ford's schedule calls for a new engine air filter every 45,000 miles on normal service. Under severe service, inspect it at every oil change and replace it when it needs it. Aftermarket elements follow their maker's service guidance, and a cleanable cotton element gets washed and re-oiled at service time instead of thrown away. Keep in mind that the filter is the only thing between the outside air and the turbo compressor, so a torn element or a loose clamp is worth fixing right away.

Oiled vs. dry

Both intakes with documented 50-state EO numbers for these years give you a choice. Banks offers an oiled or a dry filter for its Ram-Air 41890, and S&B offers a cleanable eight-layer oiled cotton element or a dry extendable element for its 75-5085. S&B cites 99.5 to 99.7% filtration efficiency for its media. Oiled cotton gets cleaned and re-oiled; dry media skips the oil step. Choose by how you want to maintain it. Filter wraps and pre-filter socks are an outer layer that goes over the element and catches debris before it reaches the media.

Year listings vary. The S&B KF-1085 and WF-1071 are listed for 2017-2019 only, while the KF-1070, WF-1062 and SPE filters are listed across wider ranges. The Banks 41829 is also listed for the 2020-2026 GM 6.6L Duramax L5P, and the No Limit NLRF is listed for several Power Stroke engines. What matters is that the element matches your intake housing.
