Call or Text (352) 722-5295Lighting on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The 2015 and 2016 model years were the last of the steel-body third-generation Super Duty. Ford refreshed the powertrain for 2015, but the headlamps carried over from 2011. Every truck left the plant with dual-beam halogen headlamps in Ford's jewel-effect housing, an intelligent three-blink turn signal, an integrated box lamp and a center high-mount stop lamp. Dual-rear-wheel trucks got roof clearance lamps as standard, and fog lamps came standard on Lariat and above, so an XL or XLT may not have them from the factory.
The engine under the hood, the 6.7L Powerstroke, has nothing to do with headlight fitment. The headlamp is a body part, and the same housing runs from the F-250 through the F-550 for all six model years from 2011 to 2016.
What fails and why
No lighting failure pattern is documented for the 2015-2016 trucks specifically. What owners run into is the design itself: the factory halogen reflector headlamp is dated next to a projector or LED unit, and the usual complaint is dim low beams. On a truck this age, that's the common reason to shop this page. If you're replacing a housing for any reason, decide first whether you want factory-level output back or a better beam.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
A like-for-like halogen reflector housing puts you back where the truck started and nothing more. A projector housing uses a lens to focus the beam. AlphaRex builds direct-fit lines for the 2011-2016 Super Duty:
- PRO-Series: a halogen projector. You get the projector beam while staying on halogen bulbs.
- LUXX-Series: an LED projector housing.
- NOVA-Series: an LED projector housing with its own styling and finish choices.
Because the factory system is halogen, the LED projector units go in as a plug-in housing swap. Pick PRO if you want a cleaner beam without changing light source. Pick LUXX or NOVA if you want to move off halogen altogether.
What we carry
This collection is all AlphaRex projector headlights built for the 2011-2016 Super Duty body. The PRO-Series halogen projectors come in chrome, black and Alpha-Black. The LUXX-Series LED projectors come in Alpha-Black, chrome and black. The NOVA-Series LED projectors come in chrome and gloss black. The finish is about the look of the housing, so choose the one that suits your grille and trim level, whether that's a work-spec XL or a Platinum.
Fitment notes
These housings fit 2011 through 2016 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks. They do not fit 2017 and newer trucks, which have a different body and a different headlight housing. The engine doesn't change headlight fit, so a gas F-250 from the same years takes the same part. Fog lamps, roof clearance lamps and the box lamp are separate from the headlight housing and are not part of this collection. If you're unsure which body you have, verify by VIN or use the fitment checker on the product page.
Frequently asked questions
Will a headlight made for a 2011-2014 Super Duty fit my 2015 or 2016?
Yes. AlphaRex lists one housing for every 2011-2016 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550, and the headlamp housing did not change with the 2015 powertrain refresh. The cutoff is 2017, when the body changed and the housing changed with it.
Is there a known headlight problem on the 2015-2016 trucks?
Not one that's documented for these years. The factory halogen reflector lamps don't have a failure pattern on record; they're simply dated, and dim low beams are the common complaint. That's a reason to upgrade, not a defect to chase.
Which AlphaRex line is halogen and which are LED?
The PRO-Series is a halogen projector. The LUXX-Series and NOVA-Series are LED projector housings. All of them are direct-fit for 2011-2016 trucks and come in more than one finish.
My XLT doesn't have fog lights. Is something missing?
Probably not. Ford made fog lamps standard on Lariat and above for these years, so on an XL or XLT they weren't standard equipment. This collection covers headlights only; fog lamps are a separate part.
