2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Lift Pumps

Lift pumps and fuel tank sending units for 2015-2016 Ford Super Duty pickups with the 6.7L Powerstroke. Supply matters on this engine because of the Bosch CP4.2 high-pressure pump: it is lubricated by the fuel it pumps, so anything that starves it, like running the tank low, speeds up wear.

Lift pumps on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

Ford put an electric lift pump inside a frame-mounted Diesel Fuel Conditioning Module, along with a 10-micron primary filter and a water separator. From there, fuel passes a 4-micron secondary filter on the driver side of the engine before the CP4.2 builds up to 30,000 psi for the piezo injectors on the 6.7L Powerstroke. Unlike the Duramax, which relies on an internal gear pump, the Power Stroke feeds its CP4 with that electric lift pump, and Diesel Hub rates the Ford setup as more resistant to fuel starvation.

What fails and why

The CP4.2 is the biggest risk on this platform. When fuel lubricity is low, its roller followers can skate on the cam and shed fine metal into the injectors, rails, lines, lift pump and tank, and failures usually come with little warning. Symptoms include a sudden stall or no-start, sputter or loss of rail pressure, metal flakes in the fuel filter and hard starts after a refuel. Running the tank low or out makes it worse because the pump depends on fuel for lubrication. After a CP4 failure, the lift pump is on the list of parts that must be replaced or cleaned, along with the injectors, pump, rails, lines, filters and tank.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If your sending unit has failed and you want to stay factory-style, the Alliant Power AP63631 is a replacement fuel tank sending unit for 2011-2016 6.7L trucks. For a performance replacement, Fleece offers the SureFlo Performance Sending Unit, and the PowerFlo Lift Pump and Fuel System Upgrade Kit is its full upgrade. Habits matter as much as hardware: let the lift pump run 5 to 10 seconds after the wait-to-start light before you crank, and after any fuel-system service cycle the key 5 to 10 times, 20 to 30 seconds each, to prime the system.

What we carry

Fleece Performance Engineering PowerFlo Lift Pump and Fuel System Upgrade Kits (FPE-PF-FMC-1116-LB and -SB) and SureFlo Performance Sending Units (FPE-SF-FMC-1116-LB and -SB), sold in separate long-bed and short-bed versions for 2011-2016 6.7L trucks. The Alliant Power AP63631 Fuel Tank Sending Unit. More options live in our lift pump collection.

Fitment notes

Bed length decides which Fleece part number you order. Ford also fit different fuel tanks by wheelbase: 26 gallons on 137-, 142- and 156-inch-wheelbase diesel F-250 and F-350 trucks, and 37.5 gallons on 158- and 172-inch wheelbases and every F-450. Know your cab, bed and wheelbase, and verify by VIN before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the factory lift pump on a 2015-2016 6.7L?

It is in the Diesel Fuel Conditioning Module on the frame, not in the engine bay. That module also holds the 10-micron primary filter and the water separator. The 4-micron secondary filter is engine-mounted near the firewall on the driver side.

Will a lift pump upgrade stop a CP4.2 failure?

Nothing on this page can promise that, because the failure starts inside the pump when fuel lubricity is low. What you control is supply and fuel quality. Diesel Hub's guidance is a lubricity additive at every fill and never running the tank low, and if your CP4 has already failed, the whole fuel system, lift pump included, has to be dealt with.

How often should I change the fuel filters?

Ford's interval is 22,500 miles in normal service, or 15,000 miles, 6 months or 600 hours in severe service, and biodiesel counts as severe. The 2011-2016 kit is Motorcraft FD-4615, which covers both filters. Cut the old filter open and look: metal debris is the earliest CP4 warning.
