2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Downpipes

Downpipes and downpipe clamps for the 2015-2016 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 pickups with the 6.7L Powerstroke. The downpipe carries exhaust from the valley-mounted turbo to the DOC, DPF and SCR. The one thing to know: the 2015 turbo change split the part numbers, so a downpipe listed only for 2011-2014 is not the part for these years.

Downpipes on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The 6.7L Powerstroke uses reverse-flow aluminum heads with the exhaust ports on the inboard side, so the cast-iron manifolds and the turbo sit together in the engine valley. The downpipe is the first long run of the exhaust. It leaves the turbo and carries exhaust to the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC), then on to the silicon-carbide diesel particulate filter (DPF) and the SCR catalyst, where diesel exhaust fluid is dosed. Ford lists the major exhaust components as stainless steel. For 2015 Ford replaced the 2011-2014 DualBoost turbo with a larger Garrett GT3788V variable-geometry turbo. It has no wastegate, and its hydraulically moved vanes also give the engine its exhaust braking.

Why the 2015 split matters

MBRP lists separate downpipes for 2011-2014 (FS9CA459) and 2015-2016 (FS9CA460) because the turbo changed, and its pickup part excludes cab-and-chassis trucks. That exclusion follows the turbo too. The 2011-2016 F-350, F-450 and F-550 chassis cabs run a Garrett AVNT3276V instead of the pickup turbo, and pickup exhaust parts do not carry over to them. So an F-350 pickup and an F-350 chassis cab from the same year need different parts. Some downpipes here are listed across a wider range, such as SPE Motorsport's 2011-2019 two-piece design, so read the year range in each title instead of assuming.

Before you replace a downpipe

Aftertreatment warnings on this engine often start upstream. A failed boost tube makes the 6.7L run rich and can plug the DPF with soot in as little as 5 to 10 miles, which shows up as limp mode and DPF-full warnings. A truck that never finishes its active regens, which generally need 10 to 20 miles above 35 mph, will also show frequent regen messages, reduced power and a rising oil level. A new downpipe fixes neither one, so rule them out first. If the turbo has been replaced, know that 2015-2016 turbos are not directly cross-compatible with 2017-2019 units, because Ford revised the turbo oil supply line and pedestal for 2017.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

Whatever downpipe you choose, its job does not change: it feeds the DOC, DPF and SCR, and all three stay in place. A replacement or upgraded downpipe has to keep that aftertreatment intact to be legal on any truck. A CARB Executive Order (EO) number on a listing is how an aftermarket part shows it is emissions-legal in all 50 states, so check each downpipe's product page for one before you order. MBRP states that its FS9CA460 4-in downpipe for 2015-2016 pickups carries CARB EO D-763-1. If the pipe itself is fine and you only need to reseal a joint, the MAHLE V-band clamps are the OEM-style hardware.

What we carry

  • MBRP Armor Lite / Pro 4-in turbo downpipe, listed for 2008-2016 6.4L and 6.7L trucks; confirm the listing is the 2015-2016 pickup version before you order
  • SPE Motorsport S100371 two-piece downpipe, listed for 2011-2019 6.7L
  • No Limit Fabrication stainless steel downpipe, listed for 2015-2019 6.7L
  • MAHLE B33485 2.5-in turbocharger downpipe V-band clamp (2011-2022) and B33487 3.5-in clamp (2015-2022)

Filter-back systems, up-pipes and parts for other trucks are in our main exhaust section.

Fitment notes

Buy by year and body style. For a 2015 or 2016 F-250, F-350 or F-450 pickup, use a part listed for 2015-2016 or a range that includes those years, and skip anything listed only for 2011-2014. Chassis cabs are a separate case because of their different turbo. The MAHLE clamps differ in size and year range, so match the clamp to the joint you are working on. If you are replacing more than the downpipe, remember that exhaust routing and tailpipe length change with cab, bed and wheelbase, and DRW and F-450 trucks differ from SRW. Verify by VIN or call the shop.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 2011-2014 downpipe fit my 2015 or 2016 F-250?

Not as a rule. The turbo changed for 2015, and MBRP lists FS9CA459 for 2011-2014 and FS9CA460 for 2015-2016 pickups. Parts listed across 2011-2019, like SPE's two-piece downpipe, cover both, so go by the year range in the product title.

How do I know a downpipe is emissions-legal?

Look for a CARB Executive Order number on the listing. A CARB EO number shows an aftermarket part is emissions-legal in all 50 states, and that is the check to make for every truck. A legal downpipe also keeps the DOC, DPF and SCR in place. MBRP states its FS9CA460 for 2015-2016 pickups carries CARB EO D-763-1.

Does a chassis cab use the same downpipe as a pickup?

No. The 2011-2016 chassis cabs run a Garrett AVNT3276V turbo instead of the pickup's GT3788V, and MBRP excludes cab-and-chassis trucks from its 2015-2016 pickup downpipe. Pickup exhaust parts do not carry over, so confirm which truck you have before ordering.

Which MAHLE clamp do I need?

MAHLE makes its downpipe V-band clamps in different sizes: B33485 is 2.5 in for 2011-2022 trucks and B33487 is 3.5 in for 2015-2022. Measure the flange you are clamping or check the product page for its location before you order.
