2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Valve Covers

Valve cover gaskets for the 2015-2016 F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.7L Powerstroke, sold by side or as a full set. If oil is weeping from the top of the engine, check one thing first: a loaded-up CCV oil separator on the driver-side valve cover can push oil past pressurized seals, so look at the CCV before you blame the gasket.

Valve covers on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The 6.7L Powerstroke uses aluminum reverse-flow heads with a pushrod OHV valvetrain: four valves per cylinder, a gear-driven cam and stamped-steel rockers on hydraulic lash adjusters. Each head gets its own valve cover. The driver-side cover does extra duty, because it carries the CCV oil separator, held on with four 10 mm bolts and sealed with o-rings, just behind the engine-mounted fuel filter. The separator's outlet hose runs to the turbo inlet. Ford rated this engine at 440 hp and 860 lb-ft for 2015-2016. For everything else Ford diesel, see the Powerstroke hub.

Why the covers come off

There is no scheduled valve adjustment on this engine, and the sources show no documented valvetrain failure pattern on 2015-2016 trucks. So the covers usually come off for one of three reasons: a leaking gasket, valvetrain parts going in on a build, or head work. Before you pull the driver-side cover for an oil leak, check the CCV oil separator. The sealed 2011-2016 unit loads up with use, and a loaded separator can show up as oil leaking from pressurized seals, along with oil consumption, oil in the turbo inlet and a 1-2 mpg loss. Diesel Hub recommends replacing it every 30,000-40,000 miles. That job is the engine-mounted fuel filter, the outlet hose at the turbo inlet and four 10 mm bolts, with the o-rings oiled on reassembly.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

Valve cover gaskets are a straight OEM-grade replacement; there is no performance version to chase. What you choose is coverage. Buy a single side if only one cover is coming off, or a full set when both are, such as during head work or a valvetrain install. Mahle sells it both ways, and Dorman offers left and right gaskets separately, so you can match the part to the job instead of buying more than you need.

What we carry

  • Mahle: the VS50658 valve cover gasket set, the VS50658SL left and VS50658SR right sets sold by side, and the VS50852 gasket set.
  • Dorman: 263-201 left and 263-200 right valve cover gaskets.

Fitment notes

Every gasket here is listed for 2011-2020 6.7L Powerstroke engines, so the same part covers 2011-2014, 2015-2016 and 2017-2020 trucks. Left means the driver side and right means the passenger side. The CCV separator that bolts to the driver-side cover is not shared across that range: 2011-2016 uses DC3Z-6A785-C and 2017-2019 uses FC3Z-6A785-F, so if you service it during the job, order the right one. Verify by VIN if your engine has been replaced.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to adjust the valves while the covers are off?

No. The 6.7L uses hydraulic lash adjusters, so there is no valve lash adjustment to make. Look over the rockers and pushrods while you are in there, then close it up with the new gasket.

Should I buy one side or the full set?

If you are fixing a leak on one side, the single-side Mahle set or a Dorman left or right gasket is all you need. If both covers are coming off for head or valvetrain work, the full Mahle set covers both sides. Confirm the side before you order: left is the driver side.

Is my top-end oil leak the gasket or the CCV?

Check the CCV first. A loaded-up separator can push oil out past pressurized seals, and it can bring other signs with it: oil consumption, oil in the turbo inlet and a 1-2 mpg drop. If those show up together, service the CCV before you replace a gasket that may be fine.

Will these gaskets fit my 2017 or 2019?

The listings say yes: every gasket here covers 2011-2020. The CCV separator on the same cover changed at 2017, though, so if you replace it during the job, match its part number to your year.
