Call or Text (352) 722-5295Complete transmissions for the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
Every 2011-2014 6.7L Super Duty left the factory with the 6R140 TorqShift, a revised 5R110W with a shorter first gear and two overdrives. It is rated for 1,400 lb-ft of input with converter multiplication, and the case itself is stout. The parts that give up are the valve body, the converter and the internal harness, and each of those has a repair short of a whole transmission. A complete package makes sense when the damage is internal, when problems have stacked up on a high-mileage unit, or when you are adding power and want the converter and hard parts handled in one job.
When a complete unit is the right call
- No forward or reverse. A broken input shaft spin-weld at the 4-5-6 drum leaves the truck unable to move. It is rare and mostly seen on high-power trucks or after a hard hit.
- A slipping converter on a truck with added power. The 2011-2014 factory converter uses a single friction plate, and it slips and overheats once power goes up. A package that pairs the transmission with a converter handles both at once.
- A tired, high-mileage box. Valve body wear shows up on high-mileage units, and owners report it past 240,000 miles. If that truck also slips or shudders, one complete unit can beat chasing parts one at a time.
If the only complaint is harsh shifts, a 2-3 flare or ratio codes, look at fluid, filter, solenoids and the valve body first. Debris can stick the 1-2-3-4 control valve and set codes with no internal damage.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
The 2011-2014 trucks came with the single-plate factory converter; Ford did not add a high-capacity converter until 2015. That is fine for a truck that stays at factory power and tows within its rating. If you tow heavy, plan to add power, or have already overheated a converter, a package with an upgraded converter is the better fit. Built units with updated valve bodies, recalibrated accumulation and new solenoids are aimed at exactly those trucks.
What we carry
BD Diesel offers the Torquemaster 6R140 Transmission and Converter Package, the Roadmaster Transmission and Converter, and the 1064504SS Transmission and Converter. All are listed for 2011-2016 trucks and all are paired with a converter. ATS Diesel Performance offers its 6R140 Transmission Package, listed for 2011-2019 and sold in separate 2WD and 4WD versions. Compare what each package includes on its product page.
Fitment notes
These units are 6R140 only. The 10R140 ten-speed that arrived for 2020 shares no converter or valve-body parts, so a 2020-up unit is a different animal. The BD 2011-2016 range and the ATS 2011-2019 range both cover a 2011-2014 truck. Order the ATS 2WD or 4WD version to match your drivetrain. If your truck has the optional live-drive PTO, call before ordering so we can confirm the unit suits it. Verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Should I rebuild my 6R140 or buy a complete unit?
Start with a diagnosis. Valve body debris, dead solenoids and skipped service are the common causes of 6R140 complaints, and a fluid and FT-187 filter change comes before condemning anything. A complete unit makes sense for internal damage, a slipping converter on a powered-up truck, or a high-mileage box with several problems at once.
Do these packages include a torque converter?
The BD Diesel packages are listed as transmission and converter packages. Check the ATS product page for what its 6R140 package includes. The converter matters on these years, because the factory 2011-2014 converter uses a single friction plate.
Will a package listed 2011-2016 fit my 2013 F-250?
The year range covers it, because every 6.7L from 2011 through 2019 uses the 6R140. Still confirm drivetrain and PTO before you order, and verify by VIN. Call the shop if anything about your truck is non-stock.
Will a new transmission fix an overheating problem?
Not by itself. On 2011-2014 trucks the transmission cooler runs on the low-temp secondary loop, and low coolant there starves it. Check the secondary coolant, and consider an auxiliary cooler, before the new unit goes in.
