2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Bumper Hitches

Receiver hitches, ball mounts and weight distribution for the 2011-2014 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty with the 6.7L Powerstroke. The one thing to know: the factory receiver is 2.5 in, and its 14,000 lb SRW rating requires a weight distribution hitch. Run a 2 in mount through the supplied adapter and the rating falls to 12,500 lb.

Bumper hitches on the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

Ford rates the factory 2.5 in receiver two ways. On F-250 and F-350 SRW trucks with the 6.7L it is 8,500 lb weight-carrying, with the tongue riding straight on the ball, and 14,000 lb with a 1,400 lb tongue when you add a weight distribution hitch. That 14,000 lb figure applies to the 156, 158 and 172 in wheelbase trucks; a Regular Cab is rated 12,500 lb. F-350 DRW and F-450 trucks are rated 18,500 lb with an 1,850 lb tongue. Ford supplied a 2.5-to-2.0 in adapter, and putting it in the chain drops the SRW rating to 12,500 lb with a 1,250 lb tongue. Many owners run a 2 in ball mount through that adapter without ever knowing the number changed.

Picking the right setup

Start with shank size. A 2.5 in shank ball mount keeps the factory receiver at its full rating. Then choose the drop so the trailer rides level; the B&W Tow & Stow mounts here are adjustable and come in drops from 2.5 in up to 9 in. Heavy trailers on an SRW truck need a weight distribution hitch to use the 14,000 lb rating. Pintle versions are for trailers with a lunette ring. If your truck wears a roll pan instead of a rear bumper, or you want a replacement receiver for the stock bumper, Big Hitch Products builds receivers for both setups.

What we carry

B&W Trailer Hitches supplies the ball mounts: Tow & Stow adjustable mounts in 2, 2.5 and 3 in shanks in standard, pintle and MultiPro/MultiFlex versions, plus a triple tow ball mount, heavy duty ball mounts and the WDHK4500 weight distribution hitch. Big Hitch Products supplies the receivers: a 2.5 in receiver hitch for the stock bumper, a hidden 2.5 in receiver that sits behind a roll pan, and adjustable pulling hitches in 2 and 2.5 in. BHP lists its receivers for 1999-2016 Super Dutys, which tracks with the frame, since the 2011-2016 frame is an updated version of the 1999 design. Shop every hitch type on the hitches page, or the rest of the truck at the Powerstroke hub.

Fitment notes

The factory receiver is 2.5 in, so a 3 in shank needs a 3 in receiver, and a 2 in shank means the adapter and its lower rating. Every piece in the chain carries its own rating, so tow to the lowest one, whether that is the truck, the receiver, the ball mount or the ball. The hidden receiver is for trucks with a roll pan, not the stock rear bumper. Verify by VIN with the fitment checker before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

What is the tongue weight limit on a 2011-2014 F-250 receiver?

With a weight distribution hitch, the SRW diesel rating is 1,400 lb of tongue on a 14,000 lb trailer, on the 156, 158 and 172 in wheelbase trucks. Through the 2.0 in adapter it drops to 1,250 lb. DRW and F-450 trucks are rated 1,850 lb.

Do I need a weight distribution hitch?

On an SRW truck, above 8,500 lb you do. That is the factory receiver's weight-carrying limit, and the 14,000 lb rating applies only with weight distribution. The B&W WDHK4500 in this collection is a weight distribution hitch; check its own rating against your trailer.

Should I use a 2 in or 2.5 in ball mount?

Use 2.5 in to match the factory receiver. A 2 in mount needs the 2.5-to-2.0 in adapter, which cuts the conventional rating to 12,500 lb. We carry B&W Tow & Stow mounts in both sizes, plus 3 in shanks for trucks with a 3 in receiver.
