Call or Text (352) 722-5295Lighting on the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
Ford kept the front lighting simple on the third-generation Super Duty. Whether the truck is a work-spec XL, an XLT, a Lariat, a King Ranch or a 2013-2014 Platinum, the headlamp is a composite halogen unit with one H13 (9008) dual-filament bulb doing both low and high beam. There are no ballasts, no LED drivers and no factory HID option on any trim. The only thing that changes between trims is the bezel finish, black on some trucks and chrome on others. That detail matters when you shop, because the assembly you choose sets the look of the whole front end. The 6.7L Powerstroke under the hood has nothing to do with the lamps, but these collections are organized by engine so you can shop the whole truck in one place. For engine and drivetrain parts, start at the Powerstroke parts hub.
What fails and why
Factory headlamps on these trucks rarely quit all at once. They wear out in three ways. First, the polycarbonate lens hazes and turns yellow from sun exposure, and light output drops even with a fresh bulb in the socket. Second, the seal between the lens and the housing gives up with age. Moisture gets inside, the bulb connectors and reflectors corrode, and you start seeing fog or droplets behind the lens along with bulbs that burn out more often than they should. Third, the plastic mounting tabs break. A lamp with a broken tab sits crooked, vibrates, and cannot be aimed correctly no matter how you turn the adjusters. Any one of these is reason enough to replace the assembly instead of chasing bulbs.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Once a housing is yellowed, cracked, leaking or loose, you have two ways to go. An OEM-style halogen assembly brings back the factory look and keeps the H13 bulb. A projector or LED projector assembly is a drop-in housing that changes both the beam and the look of the truck. Be aware that some aftermarket assemblies run different bulbs, such as H1 or H7, or need an adapter harness or module to work with the truck's wiring. Read the product details before install day so nothing catches you short. Either way the grille comes off, because all four mounting bolts sit behind it, and the swap takes about an hour and a half. This collection focuses on the upgrade side.
What we carry
The headlights in this collection come from AlphaRex, and they break down by series.
- Pro-Series projector headlights: 880140 in Alpha-Black, 880141 in chrome and 880142 in black.
- Luxx-Series LED projector headlights: 880143 in Alpha-Black, 880145 in chrome and 880146 in black.
- Nova-Series LED projector headlights: 880148 in chrome and 880149 in gloss black.
Choose the series for the light source you want, then choose the finish to suit your grille. Chrome keeps the bright look of a chrome-bezel truck, while black and Alpha-Black give the front end a darker face.
Fitment notes
The 2011-2016 Super Duty headlamp does not interchange with 2008-2010 trucks or with 2017 and newer trucks, so a lamp listed for the earlier or later body will not bolt in. If you have installed a leveling kit or a lift, the headlamps must be re-aimed afterward, and a broken mounting tab will keep any lamp from holding its aim. Check the bulb and harness requirements on the listing you pick. When in doubt, verify by VIN or run your truck through the fitment checker on the product page.
Frequently asked questions
Did any 2011-2014 Super Duty come with factory HID or LED headlights?
No. Every trim from XL through Platinum used composite halogen headlamps with an H13 (9008) bulb. The trims differ only in bezel finish, black or chrome. Any projector, LED or HID lighting you see on one of these trucks was added after it left the factory.
Why are my headlights still dim after I put in new bulbs?
Look at the lens. The polycarbonate hazes and yellows from UV exposure, and that cuts output no matter how new the bulb is. If you also see fog or droplets inside, the seal has failed and moisture is working on the reflector and connector. At that point a new assembly is the real fix.
Do I have to pull the grille to replace a headlight?
Yes. All four mounting bolts sit behind the grille, so it has to come off first. Plan on roughly an hour and a half. If you would rather hand it off, we install everything we sell at our shop in Wildwood, FL.
Will 2017 Super Duty headlights fit my 2013 F-250?
No. The 2011-2016 headlamp does not interchange with 2017 and newer trucks, and it does not interchange with 2008-2010 trucks either. Shop by your model year and confirm with the fitment checker on the product page.
