2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Exhaust Systems

Filter-back exhaust systems for 2011-2014 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty pickups with the 6.7L Powerstroke, plus the adapters and gaskets that go with them. A filter-back kit replaces only the pipe behind the aftertreatment, so the DOC, DPF and SCR stay on the truck. What you have to get right is fitment: cab, bed length and single or dual rear wheels.

Filter-back exhaust on the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

On the 6.7L Powerstroke, exhaust leaves the valley-mounted turbo through a two-piece 4 in downpipe and passes through the aftertreatment: a diesel oxidation catalyst, a diesel particulate filter and SCR with DEF injection. Everything behind that is the tailpipe section, and it is the only part a filter-back system replaces. You may also see these called DPF-back systems. The aftertreatment, its sensors and the DEF dosing all stay exactly where Ford put them, which makes a filter-back system a compliant way to change the sound and look of the exhaust on these trucks.

What a new tailpipe will and won't fix

Know where 6.7L exhaust complaints start before you shop. Frequent regen messages, a drop in fuel economy and a hot smell when parked trace back to short trips, extended idling, boost or exhaust leaks and sensor faults. A higher idle and a heat smell during a regen are normal. Active regen needs the truck driven above 35 mph, ideally at highway speed, and that does not change with a filter-back system. Leaks upstream of the turbo show up as poor spool, high EGT and what feels like transmission hunting, and the fix for those is at the manifolds, not the tailpipe. A leak at the joint between the intermediate pipe and the tailpipe is a different story, and that is what the Mahle gasket on this page is for.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If your factory tailpipe is solid and only the joint leaks, a new gasket is the stock repair. If you want a different sound, a bigger pipe or a different outlet, a filter-back system is the upgrade. MBRP builds its Armor Lite and Armor Plus lines for these trucks in 4 in and 5 in diameters, with single-outlet and dual-outlet layouts. Choose by pipe size, outlet style and finish, then confirm the kit lists your cab and bed.

What we carry

MBRP makes up most of this page. In the Armor Plus line there are the S6287409 and S6287SLM 4 in filter-back systems, the S62530409 5 in system and the S6288409 4 in dual-outlet system. In the Armor Lite line there are the S6287AL and S6287PLM 4 in systems and the S62530AL and S62530PLM 5 in systems. All are listed for 2011-2016 6.7L trucks. MBRP's universal exhaust adapter is there for joining pipe sections. Mahle supplies the F32820 intermediate pipe to tailpipe gasket, listed for 2011-2023. For mufflers, tips and the rest, see the full exhaust category.

Fitment notes

These trucks came as Regular Cab with an 8 ft bed, SuperCab with a 6.75 ft or 8 ft bed, and Crew Cab with a 6.75 ft or 8 ft bed, and the F-450 pickup was Crew Cab, 8 ft bed and DRW only. Filter-back kits are specific to cab, bed length and SRW or DRW, so confirm all three on the listing. The S6288409 dual-outlet system is listed for Crew Cab and extended cab (SuperCab) trucks only. The MBRP kits cover 2011-2016 because the cab, bed and frame carried over through 2016. Verify by VIN when in doubt.

Frequently asked questions

Does a filter-back exhaust keep the DPF and DEF system?

Yes. A filter-back system replaces only the tailpipe section behind the aftertreatment. The DOC, DPF, SCR and DEF dosing stay on the truck and keep working the way Ford designed them.

Will a filter-back exhaust change how often my truck regens?

No. Active regen depends on driving above 35 mph, ideally at highway speed, and the tailpipe behind the DPF does not change that. If regens are frequent, look at short trips, extended idling, exhaust or boost leaks and sensor faults.

Will the dual-outlet kit fit my Regular Cab?

MBRP lists the S6288409 dual-outlet system for Crew Cab and extended cab trucks. Regular Cab owners should look at the single-outlet Armor Lite and Armor Plus kits and confirm the bed length on the listing, or call us and we will check it against your VIN.
