2007.5-2010 Chevy Duramax LMM Lift Pumps

The 2007.5-2010 LMM Duramax left the factory without an electric lift pump, so the CP3 pulls its own fuel the length of the frame. This page covers the add-on frame-mounted lift pump setups for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD, along with the relay wiring and hose kits that make the install hold up.

Lift pumps on the 2007.5-2010 Silverado 2500HD/3500HD LMM

Every Duramax from 2001 through 2016 works the same way here: no electric lift pump, just the mechanical pump at the rear of the CP3 doing the lifting. Fuel leaves the tank, which holds 26 gallons behind a standard box and 34 behind a long box, travels to the frame-mounted filter head with its hand primer and water-in-fuel sensor, and arrives at the CP3 in the engine valley, where it is pressurized to 26,000 psi for the rails. The factory filter is the ACDelco TP3018, shared across the whole CP3 and CP4 Duramax run. Because the entire supply side is under suction rather than pressure, any air leak or restriction between the tank and the pump is the pump's problem.

What fails and why

The factory arrangement runs out of margin before it breaks. With no lift pump in front of it, the CP3 sometimes has a hard time keeping up, and that shows as hesitation, sluggish acceleration and low-rail codes when the truck is towing or tuned. The same symptom set appears as low rail pressure (P0087) from a clogged filter, an air leak, a worn CP3 or a bad regulator, typically surfacing first under summer towing load with reduced power, a limp on acceleration and high EGT. The filter housing is the usual source of the air: micro-cracks at the seals and a cracked primer let air seep in, and the factory primer is often not enough to bleed it back out, which is why a hard start or long crank right after a filter change is such a common complaint.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

There is no stock lift pump to replace on this truck, so the whole category is an upgrade. A frame-mounted pump with added filtration steadies supply under load and extends CP3 and injector life, which is the real argument for it on a truck that tows. Two cautions. Keep the pressure you feed the CP3 modest; the long-standing owner rule of thumb is no more than about ten psi. And do the cheap work first: replace the filter on schedule and inspect the filter-head seals and primer before chasing rail pressure with a new pump.

What we carry

Pacific Performance Engineering anchors this lift pump page with its diesel lift pump, a deluxe prewired dual relay set for the electrical side, and lift pump installation kits offered in two hose sizes so the plumbing can match the truck. Alliant Power lists a fuel transfer pump for the same application. The relay and hose kits are the parts people forget and then improvise, which is where these installs usually go wrong. For the rest of the fuel system, work back from the Duramax hub.

Fitment notes

Most of this hardware is published across a wide span, 2001-2016 or 2001-2010 Duramax, because it mounts to the frame and plumbs into the supply line rather than bolting to the engine. What actually varies is your truck. Wheelbases run from 133.0 inches on a regular cab long box to 167.0 inches on a crew cab long box, so hose routing and length are not the same job on every Silverado. Tank capacity differs by box length, 26 versus 34 gallons, which changes where the pump draws from and whether you want a sump or a draw-straw kit with it. 3500HD trucks came as single or dual rear wheel, and box-delete and chassis cab versions exist. Verify by VIN or use the fitment checker, and tell us your cab and box when you call.

Frequently asked questions

Does the LMM have a lift pump from the factory?

No. 2001-2016 Duramax engines have no electric lift pump; they rely on the mechanical pump built into the back of the CP3. That is why this page exists as an add-on category rather than a replacement part list.

How much pressure should feed the CP3?

Modest pressure. The rule of thumb owners have settled on is no more than about ten psi at the CP3 inlet. The point of the pump is steady, filtered supply, not force-feeding the high-pressure pump.

Do I need a sump too?

Not always, but it is the common pairing. Fuel sumps and draw-straw kits are sold specifically to give a lift pump a proper place to draw from, and which one you want depends on whether you have the 26-gallon standard box tank or the 34-gallon long box tank.

Will a lift pump fix my low rail pressure code?

Only if supply was the actual problem. A clogged filter, an air leak at the filter housing, a worn CP3 or a failing regulator each set that code on their own. Change the filter, inspect the head seals and primer, and confirm where the pressure is being lost before adding a pump to cover it.
