2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins Torque Converters

Torque converters for the 2019-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins. The first thing to settle is which transmission you have. Standard-output trucks run the Chrysler 68RFE and high-output 3500s run the Aisin AS69RC. The two are not interchangeable, so read every listing for the transmission it names before you order.

Torque converters on the 2019-2024 RAM 6.7L Cummins

Every 2500 and every standard-output 3500 uses the 68RFE six-speed. It runs a dual-face converter clutch with lockup in 2nd through 6th, and for 2019 Ram added variable-force solenoid control of the converter clutch. High-output 3500 pickups use the Aisin AS69RC six-speed with a 14.0-inch converter, which also locks up in 2nd through 6th. The 68RFE takes ATF+4, 17.5 quarts total. The Aisin takes Mopar ASRC fluid, 13.7 quarts total.

What goes wrong

BD Diesel frames most AS69RC failures as converter-clutch slip combined with heat, and points heavy haulers toward high-capacity converters, better cooler flow and shorter fluid intervals. Early-build 2019 Aisin trucks also had harsh shifting that dealer reflashes with shift-strategy updates mostly fixed. If you own an early 2019 high-output truck, rule out the software updates before you buy hardware.

What we carry

BD Diesel converters listed for 2007.5-2024 Cummins include the 1071220X Triple Disc and the 1070220X ProForce Enhanced Stall, which is spelled out as a 68RFE converter. Confirm the transmission on the Triple Disc listing before ordering. ATS Diesel Performance part 302-950-5326 is a Five Star Performance converter listed for a 6.7L Cummins mated to a 4R100 transmission. That is a swap setup, not the 68RFE or Aisin your Ram came with. None of the converters here is listed for the AS69RC, so Aisin owners should call us.

Fitment notes

Identify the transmission by sales code on the build sheet or a VIN decode: DF2 is the Aisin AS69RC, ETM is the high-output engine and ETL is the standard-output engine. The 2023-and-later Rebel with the Cummins uses the 68RFE. The 68RFE and AS69RC have different pans, dipstick sides and controls, and parts do not cross between them.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my Ram has the 68RFE or the Aisin?

Every 2500 and standard-output 3500 has the 68RFE. High-output 3500 pickups have the Aisin AS69RC, which shows on the build sheet as sales code DF2, with engine code ETM. A VIN decode settles it before you order a converter.

My 2019 3500 with the Aisin shifts hard. Do I need a converter?

Not necessarily. Early-build 2019 Aisin trucks had harsh shifting that dealer reflashes with shift-strategy updates mostly fixed. Have the software checked first, then look at hardware if the problem stays.

What fluid goes back in after converter work?

The 68RFE uses ATF+4 and holds 17.5 quarts total. The Aisin AS69RC uses Mopar ASRC fluid and holds 13.7 quarts total. Use the fluid your transmission calls for.
