Call or Text (352) 722-5295Tie rods and drag link on the 2019-2024 Ram 6.7L Cummins
The fifth-gen Ram 2500/3500 steers its solid front axle through a chain of linkage. The hydraulic recirculating-ball box turns the pitman arm, the pitman arm moves the drag link, and the tie rod connects the two steering knuckles so both front wheels turn together. A track bar locates the axle side to side. Each joint in that chain can wear, and play anywhere in it reaches the steering wheel. On the 6.7L Cummins trucks, the drag link is adjustable from the factory for 2019 and newer.
What wears and how to find it
Steering complaints on this generation, wander and the after-bump shimmy owners call death wobble, usually trace to the track bar bushings, ball joints, or drag link and tie rod ends rather than the steering box. Track bar wear shows as wander, clunks over bumps and violent shimmy above about 45 mph after a bump. Ball joint wear shows as clunks, uneven tire wear and wobble. The dry-park test is how you sort it out, and the tie rod ends and drag link are part of it. Check every joint before you buy, so you replace the worn piece instead of the first one you suspect.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
If your truck is at stock height and the ends are simply worn, new linkage brings the steering back. If you run a lift or large, heavy tires, a heavier-duty tie rod and drag link kit is the upgrade to look at, and it pairs naturally with a dual stabilizer. Keep the order straight: a stabilizer masks worn joints rather than curing them, so tighten the linkage first. One recall note to clear up: the 2014-2018 drag-link recall and its weld fix do not apply to 2019-and-newer trucks.
What we carry
The Apex Chassis KIT385 extreme duty tie rod and drag link kit, listed for Cummins Rams from the 2013-2014 model years through 2026, which takes in the 2019-2024 trucks on this page. It replaces both pieces of linkage at once, which makes sense when a dry-park test shows play at more than one end, or when you are building the front end for bigger tires.
Fitment notes
The Apex kit is listed by year for Cummins Rams; read the full fitment on the product page and confirm whether it calls for 2WD or 4WD. Front track bar parts already differ between 2WD and 4WD trucks, so do not assume front-end pieces interchange. Plan on a front-end alignment after linkage work, and if you touch the track bar, torque it with the truck's full weight on the ground. Verify by VIN before you order.
Frequently asked questions
Can a worn tie rod cause death wobble on a 2019-2024 Ram 2500?
It can be part of it. Wander and death wobble on this generation usually come from the track bar bushings, ball joints, or drag link and tie rod ends, and the track bar is a common starting point. Check all of them in a dry-park test before replacing parts.
Does the 2014-2018 drag link recall apply to my 2019 or newer Ram?
No. That recall and its weld fix covered 2014-2018 trucks. 2019-and-newer Rams use an adjustable drag link, and its ends are checked like any other wear item during a dry-park test.
Should I add a steering stabilizer after new tie rods and drag link?
If you run large, heavy tires, a dual stabilizer is a reasonable add once the linkage is tight. Do it in that order: a stabilizer masks worn joints rather than curing them, so new linkage first, damper second.
