Call or Text (352) 722-5295Lighting on the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel
The EcoDiesel spans two generations of Ram 1500. The 2018 model is the last of the fourth-generation DS trucks. For 2019, Ram kept building the DS as the Ram 1500 Classic and kept the diesel in it, while the new fifth-generation DT launched without one. The diesel arrived in the DT for 2020, and 2023 was its final model year. Headlamps and taillamps are body-specific, and within each body the factory fitted different headlamp types by trim. DS Classic trucks carry on the 2013-2018 lamp designs. The DT has several headlamp setups across its trims, from Tradesman to Limited. The engine under the hood has no bearing on which lamp fits.
What fails and why
No lighting failure is tied to the EcoDiesel, so the lamps on this page are upgrades and replacements, not fixes for a known defect. The recurring visibility defect on these trucks is the rearview camera. Recall 18V398 covers the 2018 model, and recalls 20V191, 22V638, 23V059, 23V654 and 24V436/24V437 cover DT trucks. The symptom is no image in reverse. The remedy is a mirror replacement on the DS or radio/TRSCM software on the DT, and both are recall repairs. A new headlight or taillight will not bring back a blank camera screen, so check your VIN for open recalls first.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Everything in this collection is an upgraded replacement assembly: a complete lamp that takes the factory lamp's place with a different look and a different lighting layout. Up front, that means projector and LED projector headlights, halo rings, switchback LED accents, plank-style designs and crystal housings with an LED plank light bar. Out back, it means LED taillights in black, smoked, chrome and red smoked finishes, some with sequential or amber sequential turn signals. Choose by body (DS or DT) and by the lamp type your truck left the factory with, then confirm by trim and VIN.
What we carry
The lamps here come from Anzo and AlphaRex:
- Anzo headlights in plank-style, switchback and halo projector designs, black dual LED projector versions, and chrome or black crystal headlights with an LED plank light bar.
- Anzo LED taillights in black, smoked and chrome, including plank-style lenses and versions with sequential or amber sequential turn signals.
- AlphaRex headlights from its Pro-Series projector line and its Luxx-Series and Nova-Series LED projector lines, in chrome, black, jet black, gloss black and Alpha-Black finishes.
- AlphaRex Pro-Series red smoked LED tail lights.
Fitment notes
Read the year range on every listing. Most of the Anzo lamps here list the 2014-2018 EcoDiesel, which is the DS body, and a few Anzo taillights list longer ranges. DS and DT lamps do not interchange, so make sure a listing covers your body before you order. A lamp sold for a '2019 Ram 1500' could be for either body; the 2019 EcoDiesel is the Classic. Headlamp type also varies by trim within each body, so match the factory lamp style, then check the fitment checker on the product page or call with your VIN.
Frequently asked questions
Does a lamp for a gas Ram 1500 fit my EcoDiesel?
Lamp fitment follows body and trim, not the engine. Ram fitted headlamp types by trim within each body, so the questions that matter are DS or DT, and which factory lamp your trim came with. Go by the listing's fitment and your VIN.
My 2019 EcoDiesel looks different from other 2019 Ram 1500s. Which lamps do I need?
Your truck is a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic on the DS body. The all-new 2019 DT was not offered with a diesel. Shop DS lamps and confirm each listing covers your year.
My backup camera went blank. Is that a lighting part?
No. Rearview camera image loss is covered by recalls on these trucks: 18V398 on the 2018, and several on the 2020-2023 DT. The fix is a mirror replacement on the DS or software on the DT, both done as recall work. Check your VIN for open recalls.
What is the difference between AlphaRex Pro, Luxx and Nova headlights?
The titles show the main split: Pro-Series units are listed as projector headlights, while Luxx-Series and Nova-Series are listed as LED projector headlights. Each line comes in several finishes. Open the product page for the full lighting layout and the years it covers.
Do DS and DT taillights interchange?
No. Taillamps are body-specific, just like headlamps. A taillight for the 2018 Ram 1500 or 2019 Classic will not fit a 2020-2023 DT, and the reverse is true too. Confirm your body before ordering.
