2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel Oil Filters

Engine oil filters for the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel. The one rule here: the filter changes with the engine generation. The 2018 Ram 1500 and 2019 Ram 1500 Classic take a different MAHLE number than the 2020-2023 truck, so pick by model year, not by what looks close.

Oil filters for the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel

The EcoDiesel uses a cartridge filter that drops into a housing, and that housing also carries the engine oil cooler. On the second-generation engine, the factory Mopar filter is 68229402AA, the housing cap takes a 27 mm (1-1/16 in) socket and the drain plug takes a 13 mm wrench. Owners quote the guide at 10.5 quarts for that engine. For 2020-2023 trucks, take the capacity and oil spec from your owner's manual.

Choosing the right filter

A filter is not an upgrade part. You want one that matches the factory element and seals in the housing. Watch for Jeep-market filters with the O-ring at the bottom: owners report they do not interchange with the Ram EcoDiesel, and FCA later standardized on a top-O-ring design.

What we carry

MAHLE OX1145D engine oil filter for the second-generation engine and MAHLE OX1406 oil filter for the third generation.

Fitment notes

The OX1145D is listed for 2014-2019, which is the 2018 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic. The OX1406 is listed for 2020-2023. Any 2019 EcoDiesel is a Classic, since the redesigned 2019 truck had no diesel. Verify by VIN if your truck's history is unclear.

Frequently asked questions

Which MAHLE filter fits a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic EcoDiesel?

The OX1145D, which MAHLE lists for 2014-2019. The 2019 Classic carries the second-generation engine, the same as the 2018 Ram 1500. The OX1406 is for 2020-2023 trucks.

Can I use a Jeep EcoDiesel oil filter on my Ram?

Not a Jeep-market filter with the O-ring at the bottom. Owners report those do not interchange with the Ram, and FCA later moved to a top-O-ring design. Stick with a filter listed for your Ram's model year.
