Call or Text (352) 722-5295Intercooler and piping on the 2018-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel
After the single variable-geometry turbo compresses the intake charge, a hot-side hose carries it to a front-mounted air-to-air charge cooler. A cold-side hose and rubber boots carry it back to the intake manifold. Ram's factory cooler is an aluminum core with crimped plastic end tanks. The crankcase vent routes vapor into the same tract, so oil pools in the cooler and adds to the soot in the intake manifold.
What fails and why
Hoses come first. Owners report damaged or chewed charge-air hoses causing P0299 underboost and lost power. One 2021 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel set P0299 and P2D2F after rodents damaged the charge-air side. Replace damaged hoses before you suspect the turbo.
Oil is the slower problem. An oily film inside the boots and cooler is the sign of crankcase oil collecting there. Downstream, that oil adds to intake-manifold soot, and fouled swirl valves set P200A or P200B. Owners report manifold replacement for that between roughly 58,000 and 127,000 miles.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
If you only have one bad joint, a silicone hump coupler may be all you need. If the cooler itself needs replacing on a 2018 Ram 1500 or 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, the CSF 6066 OEM+ replacement intercooler is titled for those years. On a 2020-2023 truck, the PPE 215032023 kit replaces the factory cooler and both the hot-side and cold-side hoses in one job. PPE's core is bar-and-plate, 59% larger than stock, with 17 fin rows and cast end tanks, plus 5-ply silicone hoses and billet quick-connects. PPE claims up to 30 degrees F lower intake air temperature and 30% less pressure drop. That makes the kit worth a look if your factory hoses are already damaged.
What we carry
Pacific Performance Engineering supplies the 215032023 performance intercooler kit for 2020-2023 trucks and the 515303088 3-inch silicone hump coupler. CSF supplies the 6066 OEM+ replacement intercooler, titled for 2014-2019 EcoDiesel trucks.
Fitment notes
The intercooler choice follows the engine generation. The CSF 6066 is titled 2014-2019, which covers the DS-body 2018 Ram 1500 and the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic. The PPE kit is titled 2020-2023 for the DT body. The hump coupler is sold by size, so measure the joint before you order. All of these are Ram 1500 parts; the EcoDiesel was never built into a 2500 or 3500. Confirm your truck by VIN with the fitment checker on each product page.
Frequently asked questions
Does a P0299 code mean my turbo is failing?
Check the charge-air hoses first. Owners report damaged or chewed hoses causing P0299, and a 2021 truck with rodent damage on the charge-air side set P0299 and P2D2F. Replace any damaged hose before you suspect the turbo.
What is different about the PPE intercooler?
The factory cooler has crimped plastic end tanks on an aluminum core. PPE's replacement is a bar-and-plate core 59% larger with cast end tanks, and the kit includes both charge-air hoses in 5-ply silicone. PPE claims up to 30 degrees F lower intake air temperature and 30% less pressure drop.
Which intercooler fits a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic EcoDiesel?
The 2019 Classic uses the DS body and the second-generation engine, so look at the CSF 6066, titled for 2014-2019 trucks. The PPE kit is built for the 2020-2023 DT body. Confirm by VIN before you order.
