2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel Hitch Accessories

Hitch balls and reducer sleeves from B&W Trailer Hitches for the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel. They're small parts that set hard limits: the ball has to match the trailer coupler and carry the trailer's weight, and the sleeve has to match the openings it bridges. Get either one wrong and the rest of the hitch doesn't matter.

Hitch accessories for the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel

These are the parts between your ball mount and the trailer. On this truck they work with the factory Class IV receiver, which Ram rates for 1,100 lb of tongue weight. Ram recommends about 10 percent of trailer weight on the tongue and a weight-distributing hitch for trailers over 5,000 lb. An integrated trailer brake controller was a factory option. For hitching up, front and rear park sensors were offered from 2014, and Ram listed a backup camera on Big Horn and Lone Star trims, which makes lining up the ball a one-person job.

Choosing a hitch ball

Three numbers matter. Ball diameter has to match the coupler, and most couplers have the size stamped on them. Shank diameter has to match the hole in your ball mount. And the ball's rating has to meet or beat the loaded weight of the trailer. Check the size and rating of each B&W BW-THB hitch ball on the product page and match all three before you order.

Reducer sleeves

A reducer sleeve lets a smaller shank fit a larger opening. It only steps down; nothing makes a bigger shank fit a smaller hole. Check the product page for the exact sizes each B&W BW-RE-SL sleeve converts between, and measure what you have before ordering. A sleeve doesn't raise any rating, so the lowest-rated part in the chain still sets your limit.

What we carry

This collection is B&W Trailer Hitches: BW-THB hitch balls and BW-RE-SL reducer sleeves. Ball mounts, pulling hitches and B&W's weight distribution hitch for this truck are in the Bumper Hitch collection, and the full lineup is under hitches.

Fitment notes

Listed for the Ram 1500 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. Balls and sleeves are sized by measurement, so measure your coupler, ball mount hole and receiver before ordering. Stay within the 1,100 lb tongue weight limit on the Class IV receiver and the chart row for your cab, bed, drive and axle. Verify by VIN if you're unsure what hitch equipment your truck came with.

Frequently asked questions

What size hitch ball does my trailer need?

Whatever size the coupler calls for, which is usually stamped on the coupler itself. Then check that the ball's shank fits your ball mount and that its rating covers the loaded trailer. All three have to line up.

Can a reducer sleeve make a bigger shank fit my receiver?

No. Reducer sleeves only adapt a larger opening down to a smaller shank. If your ball mount's shank is bigger than your receiver opening, you need a mount with the right shank size instead.

Did my Ram 1500 EcoDiesel come with a trailer brake controller?

Maybe. The integrated trailer brake controller was a factory option, so some trucks have one and some don't. A factory-style integrated controller is available for trucks that didn't get one. It isn't in this collection, so call us and we'll help you sort out what your truck needs.
