Call or Text (352) 722-5295Lighting on the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel
Every EcoDiesel Ram 1500 from these years is a DS-body truck built after the 2013 refresh, and its lighting follows the body and trim, not the engine. Ram used three headlamp types on 2013-2018 trucks: quad halogen reflectors, a less common dual-beam single-bulb reflector, and bi-function projector halogen lamps with LED accents. The quad lamp runs a 9005 high beam and an H11 low beam in two clear reflector bowls and is typical of Tradesman, Express, SLT and Big Horn trucks. Sport, Laramie, Longhorn and Limited trucks got the projector lamp with a round lens. Sport and Laramie also got LED turn signals and running lights up front and LED taillamp clusters from 2013 on, while lower trims kept incandescent taillamps. LED cargo-bed lights arrived in 2016.
What fails and why
The research on these trucks doesn't point to a headlamp or taillamp housing that routinely fails. The common complaint is output: many owners with halogen quad lamps find the low beams dim and upgrade them. One lighting-related recall is worth knowing. On some 2013-2014 builds, instrument-cluster warning lamps could fail to light, and recall 13V-486 fixed it with a software update. That is a dealer job, not a lamp part.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
There are three documented ways to upgrade: plug-in LED bulbs matched to your lamp type, OEM-style projector housings, and complete aftermarket projector assemblies built for 2013-2018 trucks. Everything in this collection is a complete assembly. That suits a Tradesman or Big Horn owner with quad halogens who wants projector light and a new look, or a Laramie owner who wants a black or smoked finish in place of the factory lamp. If you only need a factory-look lamp after a fender bender, know that these are a different look, not a match for the lamp on the other side.
What we carry
Headlights: Anzo USA projector headlights in black and chrome, including plank-style, switchback, halo and dual-projector designs, plus crystal headlights with an LED plank light bar; and AlphaRex projector headlights in its Pro-Series, Luxx-Series and Nova-Series lines, in finishes from chrome to black, jet black, gloss black and Alpha-Black. Taillights: Anzo LED tail lights in black, smoked and chrome, with plank-style lenses and versions with sequential or amber sequential turn signals, plus the AlphaRex Pro-Series LED tail light in red smoked. Browse the EcoDiesel headlights and EcoDiesel taillights pages to narrow it down.
Fitment notes
Order headlights by your factory lamp type and by the 2013-2018 body. Lamps from 2009-2012 trucks and from the 2019 and newer DT Ram 1500 do not interchange; the 2019-2024 Ram 1500 Classic shares the 2013-2018 lamps. The quick check is the back of the headlight housing: two bulb sockets means quad, one means projector or dual-beam. Many product titles list a wider year range or more than one truck; on this page, the fitment that matters is the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. Verify by VIN or use the fitment checker on the product page.
Frequently asked questions
Does the EcoDiesel use different headlights than a gas Ram 1500?
No. Ram's 2013-2018 headlamps follow the body and trim, not the engine. What you need to match is the lamp type your truck came with, quad halogen, dual-beam or projector, and the 2013-2018 body.
How do I tell quad headlights from projectors?
Look at the back of the housing. Two bulb sockets means a quad lamp; one means a projector or dual-beam lamp. From the front, quad lamps show two clear reflector bowls, while projectors have a round lens.
Will these headlights fit a 2019 Ram 1500?
Only if it's a Ram 1500 Classic, and even then check the product page. The 2019-2024 Classic shares the 2013-2018 lamps, but the redesigned 2019 and newer DT Ram 1500 uses lamps that don't interchange. The same goes for 2009-2012 trucks, which used a different housing shape.
My truck has incandescent taillamps. Can I go LED?
Lower trims came with incandescent taillamps, while Sport and Laramie got LED clusters from the factory. Read the fitment line on each taillight to see which factory lamp it replaces, and call us with your trim if it isn't clear.
My dash warning lights don't come on at start-up. Is that a bulb?
Check the recall first. On some 2013-2014 builds, instrument-cluster warning lamps could fail to light, and recall 13V-486 fixed it with a software update. Ask a Ram dealer to run your VIN for that recall.
