2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel Exhaust Manifolds

Exhaust manifold and turbo gaskets for the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. The one thing to know: the cast exhaust manifolds on this engine have no documented cracking pattern, so work here usually means resealing a joint. The manifold that does get damaged on this engine is the plastic intake manifold, from a leaking EGR cooler.

Manifolds on the 2014-2017 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel

The EcoDiesel is a 60-degree V6 with aluminum heads, built by VM Motori. Each bank's cast exhaust manifold feeds a single Garrett GTB2056VKL variable-geometry turbo mounted low in the engine valley at the rear of the engine. The joint between manifold and turbo is sealed by its own gasket, separate from the manifold-to-head set. On the intake side, the manifold is plastic, and the coolant-cooled EGR cooler sits on the passenger-side valve cover.

What fails and why

The exhaust manifolds themselves are not a known trouble spot; there is no documented pattern of manifold cracking on this engine. The intake side is a different story. A leaking EGR cooler can melt the plastic intake manifold, and a melted manifold causes a boost leak that sets P0299 (turbo underboost). The EGR cooler recall, 19V-757 (FCA campaign VB1), replaces the intake manifold if it was damaged. On this engine, P0299 usually traces to the EGR cooler, a MAP sensor or a boost leak rather than a failed turbo, so check those before you condemn the turbo.

Gaskets enter the picture whenever a joint on the hot side is opened. If the turbo comes off, or a manifold has to come off the head, the old gaskets should not go back on.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

This is stock-replacement territory. A gasket has no performance angle; the job is a joint that seals like the factory one did. Use gaskets made for this engine rather than cutting universal material. The MAHLE parts here are listed specifically for the 2014-2019 3.0L EcoDiesel, so they are made for these joints.

What we carry

MAHLE supplies both parts on this page:

  • MS20567 exhaust manifold gasket set, listed for 2014-2019 3.0L EcoDiesel.
  • F33632 turbocharger gasket, the exhaust manifold to turbo seal, listed for 2014-2019 3.0L EcoDiesel.

MAHLE EGR valve, EGR tube and EGR cooler tube gaskets for this truck are in the exhaust accessories collection.

Fitment notes

These gaskets are for the half-ton Ram 1500 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel V6, not the Ram 2500 or 3500. Parts for 2014-2018 EcoDiesels, and the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic EcoDiesel, generally interchange. The 2020-and-newer DT-body Ram 1500 uses a third-generation EcoDiesel with different parts, and those generally do not interchange. Verify by VIN before you order.

Frequently asked questions

My EcoDiesel set P0299. Is the turbo bad?

Not necessarily. On this engine P0299 usually traces to the EGR cooler, a MAP sensor or a boost leak rather than turbo failure. One known cause is a plastic intake manifold melted by a leaking EGR cooler, which opens a boost leak.

Do EcoDiesel exhaust manifolds crack?

There is no documented pattern of exhaust manifold cracking on this engine. The manifolds are cast and feed the valley-mounted turbo. If you are chasing a leak at the manifold, inspect the joint and gaskets before you replace the casting.

Will the EGR cooler recall replace a damaged intake manifold?

Yes. Under recall 19V-757 (VB1), the intake manifold is replaced if the leaking cooler damaged it. Have a dealer check by VIN whether the recall was completed on your truck.
