The factory exhaust on this truck is a simple run: a downpipe from the valley-mounted turbo to the DOC and DPF in the frame rail, the SCR catalyst with DEF injected ahead of it, and a single tailpipe. Accessories live at the ends and joints of that run. Tips finish the tailpipe. Clamps and gaskets seal the connections. Heat wrap manages heat around the pipe. MBRP's 3.5-inch filter-back kit for the EcoDiesel already includes a 4-inch OD tip, so a tip swap is the simplest way to change the look without touching anything upstream.
What fails and why
On 2014-2015 4x2 trucks, the exhaust coupling could crack and let fumes into the cab, worst during a regen. FCA ran a voluntary recall that installed a redesigned coupling. Replacement couplings, clamps and hangers are the common small parts on this system. On the EGR side, the big repair is a cracked or soot-clogged EGR cooler (recall 19V-757, FCA campaign VB1), which shows up as P0401 or P0402, reduced power and coolant loss. Replacing the cooler means opening EGR joints, and every joint you open should get a new gasket.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
Gaskets are a stock-replacement part. Buy the ones made for this engine so each joint seals the way the factory intended and the EGR system keeps working as designed. Tips are where you get to choose. Single-wall tips are the plain option. Dual-wall tips add a second layer for a finished look. Rolled-edge tips have a turned lip. Straight cut, angle cut and turndown change how the outlet looks and where it points. Polished, stainless and black hex finishes cover most tastes.
What we carry
MBRP tips make up most of this page, nearly all with a 4-inch inlet and outlets from 4 to 8 inches: the T5050 rolled straight cut, T5052 single-wall angle cut, T5073 rolled angle cut, T5081 and T5086 single-wall turndowns, T5049 straight cut, the T5165BLK black hex, and dual-wall angled tips. PPE offers a 3-inch stainless tip and a 4-inch 304 stainless tip. Mishimoto adds the MMTW-235 exhaust heat wrap set and the MMEXH-TIP-DSL56 6-inch polished angled rolled-edge tip. BD Diesel supplies the 1405926 exhaust V-band clamp.
MAHLE covers the gaskets, all listed for 2014-2019 3.0L EcoDiesel: F33619 and F33764 exhaust pipe flange gaskets, the G33701 EGR valve gasket, G33658 and G33766 EGR tube gaskets, the G33654 EGR cooler tube to manifold gasket and the G33651 EGR cooler inlet tube gasket. Browse exhaust parts for every truck we support in our exhaust section.
Fitment notes
This page is for the half-ton Ram 1500 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel, not the Ram 2500 or 3500. Tips fit by inlet diameter: most MBRP tips here have a 4-inch inlet, and the PPE tips come in 3-inch and 4-inch. Measure the outside diameter of your tailpipe, and check whether your truck still has the factory pipe or a filter-back system. The MAHLE gaskets are engine-specific and listed for 2014-2019 EcoDiesel. If your 2014-2016 truck received the AEM software update, the extended emissions warranty covers the EGR system, so ask a dealer before you buy EGR parts. Verify by VIN when in doubt.
Frequently asked questions
What size exhaust tip fits my EcoDiesel?
Match the tip inlet to the outside diameter of your tailpipe. MBRP's 3.5-inch filter-back kit ships with a 4-inch OD tip, and most MBRP tips on this page have a 4-inch inlet. Measure before you order, especially if you are not sure what exhaust is on the truck now.
Do I need new gaskets if I replace the EGR cooler myself?
Plan on it. A cooler replacement means opening EGR joints, and any joint you open should get a new gasket. MAHLE's G33701, G33658, G33766, G33654 and G33651 cover the EGR valve, EGR tube and EGR cooler tube joints on the EcoDiesel.
Is the exhaust coupling recall worth checking on a used truck?
If it is a 2014-2015 4x2, yes. A cracked coupler could let fumes into the cab, worst during a regen, and FCA ran a voluntary recall on about 3,000 trucks to install a redesigned coupling. A dealer can confirm by VIN whether it was done.
