The EcoDiesel's filter sits in a housing that also carries the external oil cooler, and the oil it cleans works hard: it lubricates a bedplate bottom end with a forged crank and feeds a piston-cooling oil jet in every cylinder. Use a 5W-40 synthetic meeting FCA MS-10902 at every change. Trucks built before June 30, 2016 were first labeled for 5W-30, but TSB 18-078-16 moved them to 5W-40.
Change intervals
The oil-change indicator allows up to 10,000 miles or 12 months, cut to 8,000 miles or 6 months on B6-B20 biodiesel. The monitor has no oil-quality sensor, so changing sooner and running used-oil analysis is the practical protection for the bottom end and the oil cooler. Do not let the indicator reach zero: that disables DPF regeneration until a dealer resets it, and a check-engine light and reduced power follow.

Fitment notes
The OX1145D is for the half-ton Ram 1500 with the 3.0L EcoDiesel, including the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic that kept the same engine. The 2020 and later DT-body EcoDiesel is a different generation with 8.5 quarts of oil and its own oil spec, so it is not covered here. Verify by VIN with the fitment checker.

How often should I change the oil filter on a Ram 1500 EcoDiesel?
The 10.5-quart capacity assumes a filter change, so replace the filter with every oil change. The indicator allows up to 10,000 miles or 12 months, or 8,000 miles or 6 months on B6-B20 biodiesel, but shorter intervals with used-oil analysis are the better protection for this engine.
Will the MAHLE OX1145D fit my 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel?
It is not listed for it. The OX1145D covers 2014-2019 3.0L EcoDiesel trucks, and the 2020 and later engine is a redesigned third generation with a different oil capacity and spec. Call the shop with your VIN and we will help you find the right filter.
