The EcoDiesel breathes through a closed airbox on the driver side. Clean air passes the mass-airflow sensor, then feeds a single variable-geometry turbo mounted low in the engine valley. The filter is all that stands between road dust and that turbo, so it is worth getting right. The 3.0L is a VM Motori V6 rated at 240 hp and 420 lb-ft, and it was only sold in the half-ton Ram 1500.
Service intervals
The factory filter, Mopar 68190705AA, is on a 30,000-mile or 36-month replacement schedule for 2014-2019 trucks. Dusty use changes the routine: inspect the filter at every oil change and replace it when it is dirty. Aftermarket media runs on its own schedule. Cotton filters get cleaned and re-oiled rather than thrown out, while dry media is serviced without oil. Follow the maker's instructions for whichever element you run.
Factory box or aftermarket intake
Start with what is on the truck. If you kept the factory airbox, you want a replacement element for that box, which is where the MAHLE LX2923 comes in. If you installed an aftermarket intake, you need the element made for that kit, not a factory one. The Banks Power 42261 is an element built for the 3.0L EcoDiesel, and the S&B KF-1061 is a replacement filter listed for 2014-2018 EcoDiesel trucks. The S&B WF-1041 filter wrap goes over an element as an outer layer. Check each listing to confirm it matches the housing you have.

Fitment notes
Every filter here is for the 3.0L EcoDiesel Ram 1500; this engine never went in a Ram 2500 or 3500. The EcoDiesel carried over unchanged through 2018 and on the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Laramie Crew Cab, so 2014-2018 listings cover your 2014-2017 truck. The 2020 and later DT truck uses a different airbox, and intake kits for it are not the same as yours. The MAHLE listing runs through 2023, while the S&B parts stop at 2018. The Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel also uses a different airbox. Verify by VIN if anything looks off.

Can I put a factory-style filter in my aftermarket intake?
Not as a rule. An aftermarket intake uses the element its maker designed for it, which is why S&B and Banks Power sell their own replacement elements. Match the filter to the housing it goes in.
Should I run cotton or dry media?
Cotton can be cleaned and re-oiled, and the S&B 88-0008 kit is made for that job. Dry media needs no oil. S&B builds its EcoDiesel intake both ways, as the 75-5074 with cotton and the 75-5074D with dry media, so pick the element that matches what you have.
