Call or Text (352) 722-5295The pitman arm on the 2010-2018 RAM 6.7L Cummins
The pitman arm bolts to the sector shaft coming out of the frame-mounted steering box and swings the drag link back and forth as you turn the wheel. On a solid-axle Ram HD with the 6.7L Cummins, it is the first link between the box and the front wheels. Ram revised the steering gear and linkage for 2013 along with a wider, stronger front end, so arms are listed by year range rather than as one part for every fourth-gen truck.
What fails and why
The documented wear point here is the steering box itself. Sector-shaft play builds with mileage and with larger wheels and tires. Because the arm hangs off that shaft, a loose pitman arm nut or a worn box shows up as wander, a dead spot on center or highway wobble before the arm itself gives out. If your Tradesman or Big Horn feels vague on the highway, check the box and the arm nut before you blame the arm.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
A drop pitman arm is not a stock-geometry part. The 5.25-inch drop lowers the point where the drag link connects, and it is built for trucks with a lifted front end. If your truck sits at stock height, this is not the part you need. If you are lifting, match the arm to the rest of your kit. Aftermarket lift parts have had their own steering recalls, so buy components meant to work together and follow the install instructions.
What we carry
BDS Suspension drop pitman arms with a 5.25-inch drop. BDS lists the arm in an early version for 2009-2013/12 4WD trucks, with the title calling out the 2500, and a later version for 2014/13-and-later 4WD trucks.
Fitment notes
These listings are for 4WD trucks. The 2014/13 notation follows the common split where the 3500 changed for 2013 and the 2500 for 2014. Match your year and model to the title, and verify by VIN if your truck was built close to a changeover.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a drop pitman arm on a stock-height Ram 2500?
No. A drop arm changes drag link geometry for a lifted front end. On a stock-height truck, look at the steering box and track bar first if the steering feels loose.
My Ram wanders at highway speed. Is it the pitman arm?
Possibly, but start with the steering box. Sector-shaft play is the known wear point on these trucks, and it grows with mileage and larger tires. A loose pitman arm nut shows the same wander, so check it while you are under the truck.
Which BDS pitman arm fits a 2015 Ram 3500?
A 2015 3500 falls in the later 2014/13-and-later range, and it has to be a 4WD truck. Confirm with the fitment checker on the product page before you order.
