2010-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins Fuel Tanks

Fuel tank and DEF fill parts for the 2010-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins, starting with billet fuel and DEF caps from PPE. One thing to know before you order a DEF part: Ram pickups did not get SCR and diesel exhaust fluid until 2013, so a 2010-2012 pickup has no DEF fill to cap.

Fuel tanks on the 2010-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins

The tank on your Ram does more than hold diesel. On every 2010-2018 pickup it houses the electric lift pump that feeds the Bosch CP3, so the tank module is where the 6.7L Cummins fuel system begins. On 2013-2018 trucks the second, chassis-mounted fuel filter also sits on the frame rail near the tank, above the rear driveshaft. 2013 is also when Ram added SCR with diesel exhaust fluid to pickups, which added a DEF tank with its own fill cap. Chassis cabs got DEF earlier, starting in 2011.

What fails and why

Tank trouble shows up in owner complaints on 2012 trucks, including fuel tank failures where a replacement tank was incompatible or hard to get. That is the reason to confirm your exact tank before buying one. Around the tank, the 2013-2018 chassis filter is the part that gets neglected. Its steel base corrodes until it will not seal a new filter, and the tight access leads many owners to skip the change, which shows up as fuel weeping at the filter or water-in-fuel warnings.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

The parts on this page are straight swaps for the factory caps, in anodized billet. For bigger fuel system changes, the tank itself can usually stay put. Drop-in in-tank lift pumps replace the factory module without external pumps or lines, and drop-in filter systems keep the factory in-tank pump and water-in-fuel sensor. Only an external, frame-mounted pump calls for a sump, and that means cutting the tank. Decide on the fuel system plan before you touch the tank.

What we carry

  • PPE 273001000 billet fuel cap with built-in magnet, anodized green, listed for 2013-2018 6.7L trucks.
  • PPE 273005000 billet DEF cap, anodized blue, listed across 6.7L model years; on this platform it applies to trucks that have DEF.

Fitment notes

The PPE fuel cap is listed for 2013-2018, so 2010-2012 owners should check fitment before ordering. The DEF cap applies only to trucks with DEF: 2013-2018 pickups and 2011-and-later chassis cabs. A 2010-2012 pickup used a NOx adsorber catalyst instead and has no DEF tank. If you are replacing the tank itself, verify by VIN and bed length, because tank compatibility is where 2012 owners have reported trouble.

Frequently asked questions

Will the PPE DEF cap fit my 2011 Ram 2500?

Not on a 2011 pickup, because it has no DEF system. Ram pickups ran a NOx adsorber catalyst through 2012 and got SCR with DEF for 2013. If you have a 2011-2012 chassis cab, which did get DEF, call us and we will confirm the cap.

Does the PPE billet fuel cap fit a 2010-2012 truck?

It is listed for 2013-2018 6.7L trucks. If yours is a 2010-2012, use the fitment checker on the product page or call the shop before ordering.

Does upgrading my lift pump mean cutting the tank?

Not necessarily. Drop-in in-tank lift pumps replace the factory module without external pumps or lines, and drop-in filter systems keep the factory in-tank pump. Only an external, frame-mounted pump needs a sump, and that does mean cutting the tank.

What should I check before buying a replacement fuel tank?

Confirm the tank by VIN and bed length. Owner complaints on 2012 trucks include replacement tanks that were incompatible or hard to find, so match the tank to your exact truck before ordering.
