Air filters on the 2010-2018 RAM 6.7L Cummins

Every 2010-2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins starts with a hood-fed airbox. 2013-2018 trucks add Ram Active Air, a swing gate in the airbox that can draw from a ram-air duct behind the grille. From the airbox, air runs down a baffled tube to the turbo. Once you switch to an aftermarket cold air intake, the filter becomes part of that kit, and the replacement element has to match the housing, the inlet size and the model year.

Service interval and what wears

Ram's interval for the air filter on this engine is 30,000 miles or 24 months. A filter does not break the way a grid heater fastener does. It loads up with dirt and needs service, and how you service it depends on the media. Oiled cotton gets cleaned and re-oiled; S&B specs 72 grams of oil for the cotton element in its 2013-2018 kit. S&B's dry option is extendable media that is never oiled. A torn element gets replaced, not cleaned.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If your truck still has the factory airbox, a fresh filter on schedule is all it needs. The elements on this page are mostly for owners already running an aftermarket intake. If you are shopping intakes and filters together, these 2013-2018 kits carry CARB Executive Order numbers: the S&B 75-5068 is CARB-exempt under EO D-590-33 and comes with cotton-cleanable or dry media, and the Banks Ram-Air 42255 is 50-state legal under EO D-161-134 with an oiled or dry filter. When it is time to service a kit, buy the matching element and stay with the media type you like.

Fitment notes

The 2013 model year is the dividing line. S&B elements and wraps come in separate 2010-2012 and 2013-2018 versions because the intakes they fit are different parts. The Banks 42645 wrap is listed for 2003-2012 Cummins Ram-Air filters, so on this platform it covers 2010-2012 trucks. WCFab filters are sold by inlet size and are listed across several diesel platforms, so measure your inlet before you order. Banks 42141 is listed for both the 6.6L Duramax and the 6.7L Cummins. Chassis cabs can use different filters than pickups, so confirm chassis-cab fitment separately, and verify by VIN if you are not sure which intake is on the truck.

How often should I service the air filter on my 6.7L Cummins?

The factory interval is 30,000 miles or 24 months. On an aftermarket element, follow the intake maker's instructions as well. If you run oiled cotton, service means cleaning and re-oiling with a filter cleaning and oil kit, not throwing the element away.

Should I run an oiled or a dry filter?

Both S&B and Banks offer their 2013-2018 intakes with either. Oiled cotton is washed, re-oiled and reused, which takes more work at service time. Dry media is never oiled. Pick the one you will actually keep up with.

What does a filter wrap or pre-filter do?

It is an outer layer that goes over the main element. Fleece lists its FPE-AFPF pre-filter as water resistant. A wrap does not replace the filter, so you still service the element on schedule.

Will a 2010-2012 filter fit my 2013-2018 truck?

Not the S&B parts. The KF-1053 element and WF-1032 wrap are for 2010-2012, and the KF-1037 and WF-1037 are for 2013-2018. The intakes split at 2013, so the filters follow. Check the year range in the title before you add one to the cart.
