2007.5-2009 Dodge 6.7L Cummins Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid for the 2007.5-2009 Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins. Mopar specifies ATF+4 for both pickup transmissions, the 68RFE automatic and the G56 manual, so start there and read the label on every jug before you pour. Several fluids on this page are made for other specs.

Transmission fluid for the 2007.5-2009 RAM 6.7L Cummins

The 68RFE six-speed automatic behind the 6.7L Cummins takes ATF+4, with fluid and both filters due every 120,000 miles under normal use or every 60,000 miles under severe use. Mopar also specifies ATF+4 for the G56 six-speed manual, on the same 120,000/60,000-mile schedule. Some G56 owners run something else: Diesel Hub names synthetic 75W-90 manual transmission fluid and 5W-30 synthetic synchromesh fluid as owner-favored alternatives. Heat is hard on the G56, since it breaks down the fluid and oxidizes the splash lubrication the input shaft bearing depends on. Chassis cabs with the Aisin AS68RC are a separate case and take Mopar ASRC or Mobil 3309.

What we carry

  • Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond ATF+4/DEXRON III/MERCON V, labeled for the ATF+4 spec.
  • Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond G56 Severe Duty SAE 50, a fluid named for the G56. Mopar's spec is still ATF+4, so choose with that in mind.
  • Hot Shot's Secret ADRENALINE Pro Shift +4, Nano Shift and Speed Shift performance fluids. Check each label for the spec it meets.
  • Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond Type F and Dexron VI/Mercon LV fluids, which are named for other specs. Match the label to what your transmission calls for.
  • Hot Shot's Secret Shift Restore transmission fluid additive.
  • Lucas Oil 10418 multi-vehicle ATF. Confirm ATF+4 on the label before using it in a 68RFE.

Fitment notes

Fluid fits by spec, not by year, so the real question is which transmission you have. A 68RFE pickup and a G56 manual pickup both list ATF+4. An AS68RC chassis cab does not. If you are not sure what is in your truck, verify by VIN or call the shop.

Frequently asked questions

What fluid does my 68RFE take?

ATF+4. In this section, Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond ATF+4/DEXRON III/MERCON V is labeled for that spec. Change it along with both filters every 120,000 miles under normal use or every 60,000 under severe use.

Can I run something other than ATF+4 in my G56?

Mopar specifies ATF+4, and that is the safe default. Diesel Hub names a synthetic 75W-90 manual transmission fluid or a 5W-30 synthetic synchromesh fluid as owner-favored alternatives. Whatever you choose, keep it on the 120,000-mile normal or 60,000-mile severe schedule.
