Call or Text (352) 722-5295Cold air intakes on the 2007.5-2009 RAM 6.7L Cummins
Stock, air enters a fender-mounted box with a paper panel filter, Mopar 53034051AB or Fleetguard AF27684, and goes straight to the Holset HE351VE variable-geometry turbo. An aftermarket intake replaces the box and filter with a larger, less restrictive path to the turbo inlet. Banks says its Ram-Air for these trucks is 50% less restrictive than stock and raises intake air density by 6.4%.
What fails and why
On the intake side of the turbo, the thing to watch is dirt. A neglected or poorly sealed filter lets dust through to the VGT compressor wheel, and the signs are a dusted wheel, turbo whine and oil consumption. Diesel Hub lists frequent air filter checks as turbo-failure prevention. Whatever intake you run, a good seal matters along with a clean filter.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
A stock-box truck needs a new panel filter every 30,000 miles or 24 months and nothing else. If you want more airflow and lower exhaust temperatures, an intake is one place to start. Banks claims its Ram-Air adds up to 28 hp and 52 lb-ft with lower EGT. S&B, Banks and several other brands build kits for this truck, and CARB EO numbers appear on the individual listings, so treat the EO as part of the spec when you compare. Note that a cold air intake works ahead of the turbo; the intake horn on the engine is a separate part with its own upgrade path.

Fitment notes
The Banks, S&B and WCFab kits here are listed for 2007.5-2009 only. The 2010 trucks moved to a new fourth-generation body, so do not assume a kit carries over; check the listed years. Replacement filters are kit-specific too: when your filter is due, buy the element made for the intake you installed. Verify by VIN when in doubt.
Frequently asked questions
Will a cold air intake add power to my 6.7L Cummins?
Banks claims its Ram-Air for the 2007-2009 6.7L adds up to 28 hp and 52 lb-ft and lowers EGT. Treat any number as the manufacturer's claim; the result depends on the rest of the truck.
How do I know an intake is emissions-legal?
Look for the CARB EO number on the product listing. EO numbers are issued per product, so check the exact kit you are buying. If a listing does not show one, call us before you order.
Is a cold air intake the same as the Banks Monster-Ram?
No. A cold air intake like the Banks Ram-Air replaces the airbox and filter ahead of the turbo. The Monster-Ram replaces the intake horn on top of the engine, after the intercooler, and also replaces the factory grid heater hardware. They are different parts at different ends of the system.
