2007.5-2009 Dodge 6.7L Cummins Replacement Air Filters

These are replacement filter elements and pre-filter wraps for aftermarket intakes on the 2007.5-2009 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 6.7L Cummins. The one thing to know: the filter is all that stands between road dust and the Holset HE351VE variable-geometry turbo, so match the element to the intake you actually run and keep it sealed and serviced.

Replacement intake filters for the 2007.5-2009 Ram 6.7L Cummins

The 6.7L Cummins arrived in mid-2007 with the Holset HE351VE, the first variable-geometry turbo on a Cummins pickup. From the factory, air enters a fender-mounted box with a paper panel filter, Mopar 53034051AB or Fleetguard AF27684, on a 30,000-mile or 24-month interval. Once that box is replaced with an aftermarket cold air intake, the factory panel no longer applies. You need the element made for your intake, and that is what this page holds.

What fails and why

The failure that matters is dust. Diesel Hub lists frequent air filter checks as turbo-failure prevention on this engine, because dirt that gets past a neglected or poorly sealed filter damages the VGT compressor wheel. The signs are turbo whine, oil consumption, and a dusted compressor wheel when you pull the intake tube. A torn element, a loose clamp, or a filter that does not seat fully on the intake inlet all let the same dirt through.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If your truck still runs the factory airbox, stay with the Mopar or Fleetguard panel. This collection is for trucks already running an aftermarket intake, such as the Banks Ram-Air system catalogued for 2007-2009 6.7L Rams. If you are still shopping for a complete kit, buy one that shows a CARB EO number on its listing so it stays street legal, and browse our intakes for full systems.

What we carry

Banks Power 42178 is an air filter element for the 6.7L Cummins, and Banks 42645 is the pre-filter wrap sized for Ram-Air filters 42148 and 42178. S&B KF-1032 is a replacement air filter listed for 2003-2009 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins, and the S&B WF-1017 filter wrap is listed for the same years. Fleece Performance Engineering FPE-34133 is the replacement filter Fleece lists for its 2nd Gen kit, built for 2007.5-2018 6.7L trucks. Wehrli Custom Fabrication WCF100717 is a dry filter with a 4-inch inlet, listed across Duramax, Cummins and 6.0L Power Stroke applications.

Fitment notes

Match the part number on the filter you pull out, or the replacement your intake maker lists. A wrap only fits the element it was sized for. Chassis cab trucks often take different intake parts than pickups; Banks, for one, builds a separate chassis-cab version of its Monster-Ram intake elbow. Verify by VIN or call before ordering for a 3500, 4500 or 5500 cab-and-chassis.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I change the air filter on a 2007.5-2009 6.7L Cummins?

The factory interval for the stock Mopar 53034051AB element is 30,000 miles or 24 months. Aftermarket elements follow their maker's service instructions. Whatever you run, Diesel Hub lists frequent filter checks as turbo-failure prevention, because a neglected filter is how dust reaches the compressor wheel.

Do I need a filter wrap?

A wrap is an outer pre-filter layer that slips over the element. Banks 42645 is sized for Ram-Air filters 42148 and 42178, and S&B WF-1017 is listed for 2003-2009 Cummins. Buy the wrap that matches your element, not just your truck.

Will the factory Mopar filter fit my aftermarket intake?

Not as a rule. The Mopar and Fleetguard panel is built for the stock fender-mounted airbox. An aftermarket intake uses its own element, so order the replacement that matches your intake brand and part number.
