Call or Text (352) 722-5295The ECM on the 2004.5-2007 RAM 5.9L Cummins
The common-rail 5.9L Cummins was the first where power came from programming the ECM rather than adjusting an injection pump. The ECM sets rail pressure through the Fuel Control Actuator on the back of the CP3 pump and fires the injectors three times per combustion event. For 2006, Ram moved these trucks to a CAN-bus ECM, and that change affected tuner compatibility: products are split between 2003-2005 and 2006-2007 trucks.
What the ECM calibration controls
A programmer alters timing, duration, maximum fuel and rail pressure in the calibration. Rail pressure is the one to treat carefully. Raising it buys some torque between about 900 and 1,300 rpm, but it costs injector life and gives no mileage gain. A mild tune that keeps rail pressure near stock, paired with modest stage 1 injectors, has delivered 50-60 hp with stock-like mileage, which is the sensible target for a truck that works for a living.
What we carry
This page carries the Calibrated Power Solutions DSP Switch Bracket, a no-drill mount for the DSP tune switch. It is listed for 2006-2022 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins trucks, so it spans both Cummins engines from the 2006 model year forward. Every tuner we sell is in our tuners collection.
Fitment notes
The bracket listing starts at the 2006 model year. If you own a 2004.5 or 2005, call before ordering and we'll check it against your truck. On a 2007, check the engine: trucks built after January 1, 2007 got the 6.7L, so model year alone doesn't tell you what's under the hood. Any tuning product you run should carry a CARB EO number that covers your model year. Verify by VIN when in doubt.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a 2006 5.9L listed separately from a 2005?
Because the ECM changed. Ram moved to a CAN-bus ECM for 2006, which affected tuner compatibility, so tuning products are split 2003-2005 and 2006-2007. A 2004.5 truck falls on the earlier side of that line.
Does the DSP switch bracket require drilling?
No. It is sold as a no-drill mount and listed for 2006-2022 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins trucks. If you're not sure it matches your dash, call with your VIN.
Does raising rail pressure in the ECM improve mileage?
No. Testing found no verifiable mileage gain from rail pressure above the stock curve. It adds torque between about 900 and 1,300 rpm at the cost of injector life, so keep it near stock.
