Rear sway bars on the 2004.5-2007 RAM 5.9L Cummins

Out back, the third-gen Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 rides on leaf springs, with a link-coil solid axle up front. Where a truck has a rear sway bar, end links connect it to the chassis, and the bushings in those links take the wear. A bushing kit lets you refresh the links you already have instead of replacing them, which makes sense when the link bodies are straight and the hardware is sound. On a 5.9L Cummins truck, it is a small job worth doing while you are under the rear end for other work.

What we carry

This collection carries the BD Diesel 1312051 Sway Bar End Link Bushing Kit, listed for 2000-2009 Cummins trucks. The same kit also appears in the front sway bar collection for this truck.

Before you order

Look at the truck first. Check that a rear bar is fitted and how its end links attach, and compare them with the photos and description on the product page. Keep hauling problems separate: rear leaf sag under fifth-wheel and gooseneck loads is the common complaint on this generation, and sway bar parts will not fix it. Air helper springs will. On a 2007, confirm you have the 5.9L, since trucks built after January 1, 2007 got the 6.7L. Verify by VIN or call us.

Frequently asked questions

Does the BD Diesel 1312051 kit fit a 2006 Ram 3500 with the 5.9L?

BD lists it for 2000-2009 Cummins trucks, and a 2006 5.9L falls inside that range. Check that your end links match the design shown on the product page, or call us with your VIN and we will confirm it before you order.

Should I replace the bushings or the whole end link?

If the link bodies are straight and the threads and hardware are in good shape, a bushing kit is enough. If a link is bent or its hardware is damaged, replace the link. While you are under the truck, check the front track bar too; worn track bar bushings and frame-end joints are a common cause of wander on this generation.
