Front sway bars on the 2004.5-2007 RAM 5.9L Cummins

The front of a 4WD third-gen Dodge Ram HD is a link-coil solid axle with upper and lower trailing arms and a two-eye track bar. The front sway bar mounts to the frame and connects to the axle through end links, which limits body roll. The end links and their bushings are the part of the system you service: you replace them when they are worn, and you change them when the ride height changes. A level or lift on the 5.9L Cummins trucks also changes caster, so an alignment belongs on the same work order.

What we carry

  • BDS Suspension front sway bar link kit for 2-4 inch lifts, listed for 2003-2013 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins 4WD trucks.
  • BDS front sway bar link disconnect kit for the same trucks, which lets you unhook the bar when you want the axle to flex on rough trails.
  • BD Diesel 1032050 sway bar end links and the 1312051 end link bushing kit, listed for 2000-2009 Cummins trucks.

Fitment notes

The BDS parts are listed for 4WD trucks. If your truck is at stock height, the BD Diesel end links and bushing kit are the parts to look at; the BDS link kit is for trucks lifted 2 to 4 inches. On a 2007, check that the truck has the 5.9L, since trucks built after January 1, 2007 have the 6.7L. Verify by VIN or call before you order.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need new sway bar links after lifting my Ram?

On a lift in the 2 to 4 inch range, BDS sells a front link kit built for exactly that, listed for 2003-2013 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins 4WD trucks. Install it with the lift and get the front end aligned, since even a 0-2 inch level needs about 5 to 5.25 degrees of caster.

What does a sway bar disconnect kit do?

It lets you unhook the front sway bar from the axle so the suspension can articulate on rough trails, then hook it back up for the road. Reconnect it before you drive at highway speed. The BDS disconnect kit here is listed for 2003-2013 5.9L and 6.7L Cummins 4WD trucks.
