Call or Text (352) 722-5295Air helper springs on the 2004.5-2007 RAM 5.9L Cummins
The third-gen Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 carries its rear axle on leaf springs. Hook up a fifth-wheel or gooseneck and the rear sits low, the headlights aim high and the truck handles poorly loaded. Air helper springs work with the leaf pack and carry part of the load on air pressure you set: add air before you hitch a heavy trailer, let it out when you run empty. For fifth-wheel sag on the 5.9L Cummins trucks, air helper springs with an onboard compressor are the upgrade to make, usually paired with Bilstein shocks.
Choosing the right parts
- Helper spring kits. The LoadLifter 5000, LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate and LoadLifter 7500XL kits are the air springs and mounting brackets. Match the part number to your truck with the fitment checker.
- Upgrades and mounting parts. The Ultimate Plus stainless steel upgrades, the universal air spring cradle and the 4-inch and 6-inch angled air spring spacers add to or adapt a kit.
- Compressors and controls. The WirelessONE compressor system and tank kits, the heavy-duty dual load controller and the WirelessAIR control system let you set pressure without filling each spring at the valve. WirelessAIR is controlled from a phone app only.
What we carry
Everything here is from Air Lift: LoadLifter helper spring kits, the Ultimate Plus stainless steel upgrades, WirelessONE compressor and tank kits in standard and EZ Mount versions, the WirelessAIR control system with EZ Mount, the heavy-duty dual load controller, the air spring cradle, angled spacers and air hose.
Fitment notes
Air Lift builds its helper spring kits for specific chassis, so run the part number through the fitment checker or call us with your VIN. Air springs support a load; they do not raise what the truck is rated to tow or carry. On a 2007, confirm you have the 5.9L and not the 6.7L, which went into trucks built after January 1, 2007. If the truck is lifted, ask us whether you need the angled spacers.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a compressor with Air Lift helper springs?
No. The helper spring kits work on their own, and you set pressure at the fill valves. A compressor kit such as the WirelessONE lets you adjust pressure without an outside air source, which helps if you hook up and drop trailers often.
Will air bags fix the rear sag on my Ram 3500 with a fifth-wheel?
That is what they are for. Rear leaf sag with fifth-wheel and gooseneck loads is the common hauling complaint on this generation, and air helper springs are the upgrade for it. They level the truck; they do not raise its towing or payload ratings, so stay within the numbers on your door sticker.
