1994-1998 Dodge 5.9L Cummins Towing Air Bags

Air Lift air spring parts, compressors and controls for the 1994-1998 Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 with the 12-valve 5.9L Cummins. Rear air springs with individual fill lines are the documented load-leveling setup on these trucks. A compressor is optional, and it is what most of this collection is about: adjusting pressure from the cab instead of at a fill valve.

Load leveling on the 1994-1998 Dodge Ram 5.9L Cummins

Air springs sit between the frame and the rear axle and add support you tune with air pressure. On second-gen Rams, rear air springs with separate fill lines, paired with a heavy-duty rear sway bar, kept a loaded truck level through tow testing. Separate lines let you set each side on its own, which helps when the load in the bed or on the hitch is not centered. Every 12-valve 2500 is the 8,800-lb GVWR heavy-duty truck and every 3500 is a dually one-ton, so the springs are working on a stout chassis. Leveling does not raise any rating; it keeps the truck sitting where it should under the load you already carry.

Building out the system

The simplest setup fills each spring through its own valve. Adding a compressor, a tank and a controller turns that into a system you adjust from the cab or your phone. Air Lift's wireless systems are built for that step, the spacers help an install that needs more mounting height, and the stainless steel upgrade is an add-on for an existing LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus kit.

What we carry

Everything here is from Air Lift:

  • LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus Stainless Steel Upgrade (52300), an upgrade for an existing LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus install.
  • Air spring spacers in 2-inch (52420) and 4-inch (52440) heights.
  • WirelessONE compressor systems (25980 and 25980EZ) and tank upgrade kits (25981 and 25981EZ with EZ Mount).
  • WirelessAIR compressor system (74000EZ), tank with EZ Mount (74100EZ) and the app-only control system with EZ Mount (73000EZ).
  • Single Load Controller II (25592) for single-path compressor control.

Fitment notes

Several of these parts are add-ons, not complete kits. The stainless upgrade assumes LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Plus springs, and the WirelessONE tank upgrade kits build on a WirelessONE system. Confirm what is already on your truck before you order. Then check your model (2500 or 3500 dually), cab and bed against the fitment checker on the product page, and verify by VIN if you have a 1998, which can be a 12-valve or a 24-valve truck.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a compressor with air springs?

No. The documented setup on these trucks uses individual fill lines with the compressor as an option. A compressor and controller let you adjust pressure from the cab instead of at a fill valve, which pays off if you hook and unhook often.

Why run separate fill lines to each air spring?

Separate lines let you set the left and right springs to different pressures, so an off-center load still sits level. That is the setup that kept a loaded second-gen Ram level in tow testing, alongside a heavy-duty rear sway bar.

Will air springs raise my truck's towing or payload rating?

No. Air springs level the truck under load; they do not change any factory rating. Stay within the limits on your door label and the ratings on your hitch, and use the springs to keep the truck sitting level.
