Call or Text (352) 722-5295Charging and starting parts on the 2020-2022 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The charging and starting system on this truck is more than an alternator and a starter. Two Group 65, 750 CCA batteries, the cables between them, the grounds, the charging circuit wiring and the alternator mounting hardware all have to do their part. Ford lists two alternator mount bolts for the 6.7L, W715094-S437 (M10x40) and W715092-S437 (M10x90), and dual-alternator trucks use both sides. This collection covers the cable, harness and hold-down side of that system.
What fails and why
Cold-start hard starts on the 6.7L most often trace to weak batteries, voltage drop on the cables and grounds during cranking, or glow plug failure. You'll notice an extended crank or a truck that won't light off in the cold. From the driver's seat, a cable problem and a battery problem feel the same, so the order you test in matters. Load-test both batteries first, since they age together over a typical three to five years. Then check voltage drop across the cables under crank. If the batteries pass and the drop is high, the cables and grounds are where to look.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
When a cable set or harness is the problem, you can go back with factory-style parts or step up to a heavy-duty aftermarket set like the XDP cables in this collection. If your real issue is a winch, plow or upfitter load pulling the voltage down at idle, cables alone won't solve it. That's an alternator output problem, and Ford's fix is the factory dual-alternator option.
What we carry
XDP MFG's XD423 HD replacement battery cable set is listed for 2017-2022 6.7L trucks. Fleece Performance Engineering makes the FPE-HAR-FMC-CCH-2022 charging circuit harness for 2020-2022 trucks. For hold-downs, there's the S&B 72-1000 billet bracket set and the SPE Motorsport S100166 billet hold down. Lucas Oil Sure Start starting fluid is here as well.
Fitment notes
Year ranges differ across these parts. The Fleece harness is listed for 2020-2022 only, the XDP cable set for 2017-2022, and the hold-downs reach back to 2011. If your truck has dual alternators, keep that in mind when you order anything that touches the charging circuit, because Ford uses different brackets and bolts on single- and dual-alternator trucks. Chassis cabs are a separate product line from the pickups. Confirm fitment by VIN with the checker on the product page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I tell if my battery cables are the problem?
Test in order. Load-test both batteries, then check voltage drop across the cables and grounds while cranking. Good batteries with high voltage drop point to the cables or grounds, and that's when a replacement set like the XDP XD423 makes sense.
Will the Fleece charging harness fit my 2019 F-250?
It's listed for 2020-2022 only. 2020 was the refresh year for the Super Duty and brought the third-generation 6.7L, so 2017-2019 parts and 2020-2022 parts don't always cross over. Verify by VIN before you order.
Are the alternator mount bolts the same on every truck?
No. Ford lists an M10x40 (W715094-S437) and an M10x90 (W715092-S437) for the 6.7L, and single- and dual-alternator trucks use different bolts and brackets. Order by how many alternators your truck has.
