Coolant for the 2018-2021 Ford F-150 3.0L Power Stroke, the V6 diesel Ford sold only in the half-ton. What matters most here is the year split: Ford filled 2018 trucks with Motorcraft Orange VC-3-B and switched 2019-2021 trucks to Motorcraft Yellow VC-13-G. Match what's in your system before you add a drop.

Coolant on the 2018-2021 Ford F-150 3.0L Power Stroke

The 3.0L Power Stroke cools with a belt-driven water pump, a mechanical thermostat, a viscous engine-driven fan and active radiator shutters, with an electric fan up front. None of that hardware has a documented failure pattern on this engine. The coolant itself is the service item. The system holds 3.425 gallons, and the spec depends on the year: Orange VC-3-B at 50/50 with distilled water for 2018, Yellow VC-13-G for 2019 through 2021.

When to change it

Normal service puts the first change at 100,000 miles or 6 years, then every 50,000 miles after that. Severe service moves it to 60,000 miles or 2,400 hours for the first change, then every 45,000 miles. A truck that tows through a Florida summer is exactly the kind of use where the severe interval makes sense.

OEM spec or aftermarket

The simple choice is the Motorcraft spec your truck shipped with. If you go aftermarket, read the label and confirm the coolant is compatible with your truck's spec before it goes in. Don't top an orange system with yellow or a yellow system with orange. If you're switching products, drain and refill the whole system rather than mixing. Choose by the spec printed on the label, not by the color in the jug.

What we carry

Here you'll find Mishimoto Liquid Chill coolant, including pre-mixed yellow (MMRA-LC-EG-YW) and pre-mixed purple (MMRA-LC-EG-PR), Liquid Chill synthetic coolant in pre-mixed form and as MMRA-LC-FULLF, plus the MMRA-LC Liquid Chill radiator coolant additive. Lucas Oil 10640 Super Coolant is here too. Pre-mixed products pour straight in. For anything not labeled pre-mixed, follow the mixing directions on the bottle and use distilled water.

Fitment notes

This page is for the F-150 with the 3.0L diesel only, 2018-2021. The diesel was never offered in a Regular Cab, and it was never a Super Duty engine. Read the reservoir cap or label instead of trusting the model year, especially on an early 2019 build.

Frequently asked questions

Can I mix orange and yellow Motorcraft coolant?

No. The guidance for this engine is to use the year-correct coolant and not top one with the other. If you don't know what's in the system, drain and refill with the correct spec.

How many gallons do I need for a full change?

The system holds 3.425 gallons. Plan on enough pre-mixed coolant, or concentrate plus distilled water, to cover that full amount.

My truck is a 2019. Which coolant is it?

2019-2021 trucks use Motorcraft Yellow VC-13-G. Still, check the reservoir cap or label, because an early-build 2019 is the one to confirm before you buy.

Does towing change the coolant interval?

It can. The severe-duty schedule is 60,000 miles or 2,400 hours for the first change, then every 45,000 miles. If your F-150 pulls a trailer in hot weather, use that one.
