Air filters on the 2018-2021 Ford 3.0L Power Stroke

From the factory, the F-150 diesel breathes through a closed airbox with a flat panel filter, Motorcraft FA1883. Air passes that filter, then the mass air flow (MAF) sensor, then the single variable-geometry turbo. Ford's replacement interval is 30,000 miles in normal service, or as required when the truck works in dust. Trucks that have moved to the S&B cold air intake use S&B's own media instead, either cotton cleanable or dry extendable.

What fails and why

Filters don't break, they get ignored. Filter neglect is the one documented intake-side service concern on this engine, and the symptoms are restricted MAF readings, reduced boost and soot. Florida sand, unpaved roads and job sites all count as dusty, so if that's how you use the truck, look at the filter well before the 30,000-mile mark. Our research found no intercooler, charge-pipe or MAF failure pattern on these trucks, which puts the filter at the top of the list when boost feels soft.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

If your truck still has the factory airbox, the stock-style choice is a panel that matches the FA1883. If you have gone to an aftermarket intake, buy the filter made for that intake. The No Limit Fabrication NLRF on this page is sold as a cold air intake filter, and its listing covers the 2018-2021 3.0L along with 2003-2026 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L Power Strokes. Read its product page to confirm it matches the intake on your truck.

What we carry

This page carries the No Limit Fabrication NLRF cold air intake filter. Complete intake kits for diesel trucks are on our intakes page, and parts for the rest of the engine are on the Power Stroke hub.

Fitment notes

The 3.0L was sold only in the F-150, never a Super Duty. Because the No Limit listing spans several Ford diesels, check the dimensions on its product page against what's on your truck rather than going by engine alone. Run the fitment checker, and verify by VIN if you're unsure of the year or engine.

Frequently asked questions

What air filter does the 3.0L Power Stroke use from the factory?

A Motorcraft FA1883 panel filter in the factory airbox. Ford's interval is 30,000 miles in normal service, sooner in dusty conditions.

Is the No Limit filter a drop-in for the stock airbox?

Don't assume it. Its listing calls it a cold air intake filter and doesn't name the FA1883 panel, so treat it as an intake filter and check the product page against your setup before you order.

What happens if I skip filter changes?

A restricted filter is the documented intake concern on this engine. Expect restricted MAF readings, reduced boost and soot. It's the simplest fix on the truck, so start there when the truck feels flat.
