Call or Text (352) 722-5295Bumper Hitch on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
Every pickup in this run left the factory with a receiver and a 7-wire harness with 7-pin and 4-pin connectors. The F-250 and F-350 single-rear-wheel trucks got a 2.5-inch receiver. The F-350 SRW Crew Cab diesel on the 176-inch wheelbase and all dually trucks got a 3-inch receiver with a 2.5-to-3-inch sleeve reducer. Conventional towing tops out at 21,000 lb on the F-350 dually and F-450, and the top F-450 number requires weight distribution. For 2019, the F-250 reaches 18,000 lb conventional on a Crew Cab 4x2, but only with weight distribution and the High-Capacity Trailer Tow Package.
Getting the setup right
Most bumper-towing trouble is a setup problem, not a part failure. Match the shank to the receiver, or use the sleeve reducer. Pick a drop that keeps the trailer level. Use weight distribution where Ford's rating calls for it. Ford's published ratings assume a tongue load of about 10% of trailer weight and must stay within the rear axle rating, so a level trailer and the right hitch matter as much as the number in the brochure.
Choosing a ball mount
B&W's Tow & Stow mounts come in Standard, Pintle and MultiPro/MultiFlex versions, with 2-inch, 2.5-inch and 3-inch shanks and drops from 2.5 inches to 9 inches. To pick a drop, measure from the ground to the top of your receiver opening, then from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler with the trailer level. The difference is the drop you need.
What we carry
From B&W Trailer Hitches: Tow & Stow adjustable ball mounts in each of those shank sizes, the BMTT31004 triple tow ball mount, BWBMHD30010 heavy-duty ball mounts and the WDHK4500 weight distribution hitch. From Big Hitch Products: the BHP2000 2-inch and BHP2001 2.5-inch adjustable pulling hitches. More towing parts are on our hitches page and in the full Powerstroke catalog.
Fitment notes
Check your receiver before you order a shank size. If your truck has the 3-inch receiver and the factory sleeve reducer, you can run a 2.5-inch shank in the sleeve or a 3-inch shank without it. The ball mount, the hitch ball and the receiver each carry a rating, and the lowest one sets your limit along with the truck's own ratings. Verify by VIN when in doubt.
Frequently asked questions
What shank size do I need for my 2017-2019 F-250 or F-350?
For most single-rear-wheel F-250 and F-350 trucks, 2.5-inch. The F-350 SRW Crew Cab diesel on the 176-inch wheelbase and all duallys have a 3-inch receiver that comes with a 2.5-to-3-inch sleeve reducer, so either shank can work there.
Do I need a weight distribution hitch?
For the heaviest conventional trailers, yes. Ford's top F-450 conventional number requires weight distribution, and the 2019 F-250's 18,000 lb conventional rating on a Crew Cab 4x2 assumes weight distribution and the High-Capacity Trailer Tow Package. B&W's WDHK4500 is on this page.
How do I pick the right drop?
Measure the top of your receiver opening from the ground, then the bottom of the trailer coupler with the trailer level. Subtract, and pick the Tow & Stow mount closest to that number. A leveled or lifted truck usually needs more drop than a stock one.
