2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Charging System Parts

Charging and starting parts for the 2017-2019 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 6.7L Powerstroke: battery cables, charging circuit harnesses, billet hold-downs and starting fluid. If your truck is hard to start in the cold, look at the cables and glow plugs first, since corroded cables are a cited cause of glow-system trouble on this engine.

Charging and starting parts on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The wiring and hardware around the batteries does a lot of work on a diesel Super Duty. Two 12-volt batteries, 750 CCA each, feed the starter and the ceramic glow plugs, one per cylinder, through the factory cables. A charging system rated anywhere from 175 amps to a 377-amp dual-alternator setup, depending on trim and options, sends current back through the charging circuit. Single-alternator trucks in these years drive it with Motorcraft belt JK-81356 and tensioner BT-130. This page collects the smaller service and upgrade parts that support that system on the 6.7L Powerstroke.

What fails and why

Two items are documented for 2017-2019. First, corrosion: corroded battery cables can keep the glow system from working, which shows up as long cranking below freezing and white smoke on a cold start. Second, the block heater cord. NHTSA recall 18V-894 covers 2017-2019 F-250 through F-550 trucks whose block heater cable splice can corrode from water intrusion, short and create a fire risk. A melted or overheated cord is the sign. Dealers disabled and then replaced the cable, so check your VIN for open recalls.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

Battery cables are the clearest case for upgrading while you replace. If yours are corroded, a heavy-duty replacement set takes care of a cited cold-start cause. Billet hold-downs replace the factory hold-down hardware. Starting fluid is a stopgap: follow the directions on the can, and remember that if the truck needs it to fire, the glow plugs, cables or batteries still need attention.

Fitment notes

Watch the year on the Fleece harness: 2017-2018 trucks and 2019 trucks take different part numbers. The cable set is listed for 2017-2022, and the hold-downs for 2011-2022 or 2011-2024. If you are also replacing the belt, single-alternator trucks use JK-81356 with tensioner BT-130, while dual-alternator trucks use JK-81413 with different routing and brackets. Chassis cab F-350 through F-550 trucks share the engine family, but many parts differ from the pickups, so verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Which Fleece charging circuit harness fits my truck?

Fleece splits it by year. FPE-HAR-FMC-CCH-1718 is the 2017-2018 part and FPE-HAR-FMC-CCH-19 is the 2019 part. Confirm the model year on your registration or VIN before ordering.

Can corroded battery cables cause hard starts on a 6.7L?

Yes. On the 2017-2019 6.7L, corroded battery cables are a cited cause of glow-system and cold-start trouble, with long cranking below freezing and white smoke on start-up. Inspect the cables and the glow plugs before you replace a starter or chase the fuel system.

What is the block heater cord recall?

NHTSA recall 18V-894 covers 2017-2019 F-250 through F-550 trucks. Water can get into the block heater cable splice and corrode it, causing a resistive short and fire risk. Dealers disabled and then replaced the cable, so check your VIN to see whether yours was done.
