Call or Text (352) 722-5295Batteries on the 2017-2019 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
Every diesel Super Duty in this run left the factory with dual 12-volt batteries rated 750 CCA and 78 Ah each. They work as a pair to crank the 6.7L Powerstroke and to power the ceramic glow plugs, one per cylinder, that cold starts depend on. Behind them sits a 175-amp or 220-amp single alternator, or a 332-amp or 377-amp dual setup on trucks optioned for plows and upfit work.
What fails and why
On this truck, the documented battery-side trouble is the connection. Corroded battery cables are a cited cause of glow-system and cold-start problems, which show up as long cranking below freezing and white smoke on a cold start. Before you replace a battery, clean and inspect the cables and terminals, and check the glow plugs. Long-crank complaints on the 2017-2019 6.7L also trace to CP4.2 rail-pressure loss rather than to the starter.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
When the batteries themselves are due, keep the dual system at spec: AGM group-65-class replacements rated at or above 750 CCA, and replace both batteries together. The hardware on this page is the other half of the job. Billet hold-downs replace the factory hold-down hardware with machined brackets, and a relocation kit moves a battery to a new mounting spot, which matters if you are changing what else lives under the hood.
What we carry
This page is battery mounting hardware. Pick batteries to the 750 CCA spec above, then choose how to hold them:
- S&B 72-1000 billet battery hold-down bracket set, listed for 2011-2022 6.7L trucks.
- SPE Motorsport S100166 billet battery hold down, listed for 2011-2024.
- No Limit Fabrication 67BH battery hold down kit, listed for 2011-2024.
- No Limit Fabrication passenger-side battery relocation kit, built for 2017-2019 trucks.
Fitment notes
The relocation kit is the one year-specific part here, listed for 2017-2019 only. Battery tray and box location also matters if you run or plan an aftermarket intake: Banks' 41890 intake keeps the stock battery location, while S&B's 75-5085 repositions the box and battery. Check that before buying a hold-down or relocation kit so the parts do not fight each other. Chassis cab F-350 through F-550 trucks differ from pickups in many parts, so verify by VIN.
Frequently asked questions
What batteries does the 2017-2019 6.7L Powerstroke use?
Two 12-volt batteries rated 750 CCA and 78 Ah each came standard with the diesel. For replacements, AGM group-65-class batteries at or above 750 CCA keep the system at spec. Replace both at the same time.
Will a battery relocation kit work with my intake?
It depends on the intake. Banks' 41890 keeps the stock battery location, and S&B's 75-5085 repositions the battery box and battery. Match the relocation kit and hold-down to the intake you run, and call us if you are unsure.
My truck cranks slowly in the cold. Do I need new batteries?
Maybe, but check the cables first. Corroded battery cables are a cited cause of glow-system and cold-start trouble on the 6.7L, and glow plugs are the other usual suspect. New batteries will not fix a corroded cable or a failed glow plug.
