2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid and additives for the 2015-2016 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.7L Powerstroke. The 6R140 TorqShift holds 17.4 to 18.5 quarts. The one thing to get right is the spec: original 6R140 documentation calls for MERCON LV, while some current schedules list MERCON ULV, so check your owner's manual before you pour.

Transmission fluid for the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

Every 2015-2016 6.7L Powerstroke pickup uses the TorqShift 6R140 six-speed automatic. Ford's service schedule lists 150,000 miles on the normal interval and 50,000 miles on the severe interval, with the FT-187 filter and BC3Z-7A191-B pan gasket going in at the same time. A truck that tows belongs on the severe schedule. On 4x4 trucks, the transfer case is a separate fill of 1.9 to 2.0 quarts with its own 150,000-mile normal and 60,000-mile severe interval.

What we carry

This page mixes 6R140-specific fluid with multi-application products, so read every label.

  • Motorcraft XT10QLVC Mercon LV, listed for 2011-2019 6.7L Powerstroke trucks.
  • Hot Shot's Secret Blue Diamond Dexron VI & Mercon LV, Blue Diamond ATF+4/DEXRON III/MERCON V, Blue Diamond Type F, and Blue Diamond G56 Severe Duty SAE 50.
  • Hot Shot's Secret ADRENALINE Nano Shift, Speed Shift and Pro Shift +4 fluids, plus the Shift Restore transmission fluid additive.
  • Lucas Oil 10418 multi-vehicle automatic transmission fluid.

How to choose

Match the spec on the bottle to the spec in your owner's manual. Bottles labeled only for Type F, MERCON V or the G56 SAE 50 fluid don't list MERCON LV, so they are not the 6R140 spec. For the ADRENALINE line and the Lucas multi-vehicle ATF, check the specs each product page lists before you buy. If you are servicing a 4x4 transfer case at the same time, confirm its fluid in the owner's manual too.

Frequently asked questions

Is MERCON LV or MERCON ULV correct for my 2015-2016 6R140?

Original 6R140 documentation calls for MERCON LV, and some current maintenance schedules list MERCON ULV. Your owner's manual for your specific build is the tiebreaker. If you can't find it, call the shop with your VIN.

How much transmission fluid should I buy?

The 6R140 holds 17.4 to 18.5 quarts. Have enough on hand to fill to the level your owner's manual specifies, and on a 4x4, add the 1.9 to 2.0 quarts the transfer case needs if you are servicing it at the same time.

How often should I change it if I tow?

Use the severe interval, 50,000 miles, and change the FT-187 filter and pan gasket with it. The 150,000-mile normal interval is for trucks that don't work that hard.
