The 6R140 filter on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The 6R140 is the only transmission Ford offered behind the 6.7L Powerstroke in these years. Ford's service parts are the FT-187 filter and the BC3Z-7A191-B pan gasket, and the transmission holds 17.4 to 18.5 quarts. Because Ford lists the filter and the pan gasket together, plan the filter, gasket and fluid as one job instead of buying them on separate trips.

When to change it

Ford lists 150,000 miles on the normal interval and 50,000 miles on the severe interval. A truck that tows belongs on the severe schedule. For fluid, original 6R140 documentation calls for MERCON LV while some current maintenance schedules list MERCON ULV, so match what your owner's manual says for your build.
