2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Steering Stabilizers

Steering stabilizers for 2015-2016 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 4x4 trucks with the 6.7L Powerstroke. Ford put a steering damper on these trucks from the factory, so anything here either replaces that damper one-for-one or steps up to a setup sized for your lift. Everything listed is for 4WD trucks.

Steering stabilizers on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

A steering damper was standard equipment on the 2015-2016 Super Duty. On a 4x4 it sits on the solid-axle steering linkage, the pitman arm, drag link and tie rod layout Ford used across these trucks. The steering itself is a hydraulic power gear at a 20.41:1 overall ratio on 4x4 F-250 and F-350 trucks and 17.8:1 average on the F-450. A stabilizer doesn't change that ratio; its job is to damp the kick that comes back through the linkage.

Fitment on these parts follows drivetrain and lift height more than engine. The 6.7L Powerstroke in the listings just marks the trucks they were cataloged for.

What fails and why

No wear interval for the factory damper is documented for these years. The steering complaint on record is a single NHTSA report from a 2016 F-250 owner describing violent shaking after a bump at speed, with repeated dealer visits. It's anecdotal, and that symptom is consistent with worn tie rod ends, a worn drag link or a worn track bar. A stabilizer can calm the steering, but it won't fix a worn joint, so inspect the linkage first.

There's also a recall to know about. The Icon FSD 2.5 Centerline kit (65050) for 2005-2021 4x4 trucks was recalled under campaign 20E090 in December 2020 because a foam ring could block the piston ports and lock the steering. If that kit is on your truck, take care of the recall.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

For a 4x4 that keeps a single damper, the Bilstein B8 5100 Series damper is listed for 2008-2016 6.4L and 6.7L 4WD trucks, and BDS offers a single stabilizer kit with its NX2 shock for 2011-2016 4WD trucks. On a lifted truck, the BDS dual stabilizer kits put two dampers on the linkage and are sold by lift range. For 2.5-9 inches of lift there's a dual stabilizer kit and a dual mounting kit listed separately, so read each listing to see whether you need one or both.

What we carry

  • BDS Suspension: a dual steering stabilizer kit and a dual stabilizer mounting kit, both for 2.5-9 inch lifts on 2005-2026 6.7L Powerstroke 4WD trucks, plus a single stabilizer kit with an NX2 shock for 2011-2016 4WD trucks.
  • Bilstein: the 24-196284 B8 5100 Series steering damper for 2008-2016 6.4L and 6.7L 4WD trucks.

Fitment notes

Everything on this page is listed for 4WD trucks. A 4x2 Twin-I-Beam Super Duty uses different steering linkage. Match the kit to your lift height, and if you're on an F-450, confirm the listing covers it, since that truck's linkage is heavier and model-specific. Use the fitment checker on the product page or verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Does my 2015-2016 Super Duty already have a steering stabilizer?

Yes. Ford made the steering damper standard equipment on these trucks. Anything you buy here replaces the factory damper, either one-for-one or with a dual setup.

Single or dual stabilizer: which do I need?

Go by lift height. The BDS dual kits here are sold for trucks lifted 2.5 to 9 inches. Outside that range, look at a single damper, either the Bilstein B8 5100 or the BDS single kit with the NX2 shock, and check each listing's notes on lift.

Will a new stabilizer cure death wobble?

Don't count on it. The one complaint on file for a 2016 F-250 describes a shake that's consistent with worn tie rod ends, drag link or track bar. Fix the worn part first; a stabilizer is a damper, not a repair for loose linkage.

Was there a recall on a steering stabilizer for these trucks?

Yes, on one aftermarket kit. The Icon FSD 2.5 Centerline kit (65050) for 2005-2021 4x4 Super Dutys was recalled under 20E090 because a foam ring could block the piston ports and lock the steering. It's not the factory damper, and it's not a kit we list here.
