Call or Text (352) 722-5295Cooling parts on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The primary loop on this Powerstroke runs one thermostat, Motorcraft RT-1231. The secondary loop runs a pair: RT-1207 on the left and RT-1206 on the right. Factory radiator hoses are KM-5228 upper, KM-5037 lower and KM-5046 overflow. The upper coolant pipe on top of the engine is plastic from the factory. For 2015, Ford moved both EGR-cooler coolant circuits onto the primary loop, and a few hoses here, like the Dorman 626-830 EGR cooler hose, are listed for 2015-2016 only.
What fails and why
The plastic upper coolant pipe is the documented trouble spot in this collection. It is prone to cracking, leaking and failure as it ages, and the signs are coolant on top of the engine and low-coolant warnings that keep coming back. The other problem is overdue service. Ford wants the first coolant change at 105,000 miles or 6 years, then every 45,000 miles or 36 months, and old or mixed coolant leads to corrosion and clogged EGR cooler and charge-air cooler passages. Beyond that, thermostats, hoses and gaskets get replaced on condition, or while the system is already drained for other work.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
OEM-style parts from Dorman, Mahle, Alliant Power and Dayco keep the system factory-correct, and they're the right call when you're fixing one leak on a truck that's otherwise healthy. The upgrades swap plastic and rubber for metal and silicone: the S&B 83-1010 aluminum upper coolant pipe, the Wehrli billet thermostat housing, and Mishimoto silicone radiator and overflow hoses. Mishimoto and SPE Motorsport also offer low-temperature thermostat options if you want something other than the stock rating.
What we carry
- Thermostats: Alliant Power AP63540 primary plus AP63541 right-side and AP63542 left-side secondaries; Mahle TX44390 primary; Mishimoto high- and low-temperature primary thermostats; the SPE Motorsport S100119 low-temp, high-flow thermostat.
- Housings and pipes: Dorman 902-1074 thermostat housing, the Wehrli Custom Fabrication WCF100148 billet thermostat housing and the S&B 83-1010 upper coolant pipe.
- Hoses: Dorman upper radiator, reservoir, heater and EGR cooler hoses, heater hose connectors and a clamp kit; Dayco curved upper and lower radiator hoses; the Mishimoto silicone radiator hose kit and silicone overflow hose; the SPE Motorsport factory-replacement degas hose kit.
- Gaskets and seals: Mahle left and right crossover outlet gaskets, a crossover pipe mounting gasket set and the upper radiator hose seal O-ring.
- Oil cooler, sensors and more: the Dorman 904-381 engine oil cooler with inlet and outlet lines; the XDP ECT sensor, coolant filtration system and Xtra Cool water pumps; an Alliant Power 2-wire pigtail; the Mishimoto upper support bar and radiator and intercooler bundle; plus CSF, No Limit Fabrication and Fleece Performance Engineering parts.
Fitment notes
Secondary thermostats are handed, so check the side on each listing. Primary and secondary parts are not interchangeable. Year ranges vary a lot in this collection: some parts are listed 2011-2016 only, some run through 2019 or later, and a few, like the Dorman EGR cooler hose and the Mishimoto silicone overflow hose, are 2015-2016 only. Ford changed many cooling part numbers at the 2017 redesign, so the listing's year range is what counts. Verify by VIN if you're unsure.
Frequently asked questions
Which thermostats does a 2015-2016 6.7L Powerstroke use?
One primary thermostat, Motorcraft RT-1231, and two secondary thermostats: RT-1207 on the left and RT-1206 on the right. Alliant Power lists AP63540 as a primary thermostat and AP63542 (left) and AP63541 (right) as secondaries. Order the secondaries by side.
Why replace the plastic upper coolant pipe?
The factory pipe on 2011-2016 trucks is plastic and prone to cracking and leaking with age. Coolant on top of the engine and low-coolant warnings that keep coming back are the signs. The S&B 83-1010 replaces it with an aluminum pipe.
Do 2011-2014 cooling parts fit a 2015-2016?
Many do. The factory thermostats and main radiator hoses carry the same part numbers across 2011-2016. But EGR-cooler coolant plumbing changed for 2015, so some hoses are 2015-2016 only. Go by the year range on each listing.
