2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Alternators

Alternators for the 2015-2016 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.7L Powerstroke. These trucks left the factory with one of three charging setups, from a 157-amp single alternator up to a 357-amp dual setup, so the first job is knowing which one is under your hood.

Alternators on the 2015-2016 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

Ford's standard alternator on these diesels is 157 amps. Two upgrades were optional, and only on the diesel: a single 200-amp extra-heavy-duty alternator, or dual alternators with 357 amps combined. The rapid-heat supplemental cab heater required that upgrade from the factory. Whichever setup you have keeps two 12-volt batteries charged, each rated 750 CCA and 78 amp-hours. On the 6.7L Powerstroke the belt depends on the setup too: JK-81353 on single-alternator trucks, JK-81413 on dual-alternator trucks, both running the BT-131 tensioner.

Replace or upgrade?

The sources we work from show no recurring alternator failure pattern for 2015-2016 trucks, so test before you replace. Check battery condition and cable connections first, then charging output. If the alternator is done, decide whether you want the same output back or more of it. More output is the documented path when you add a plow, a winch or upfit equipment to a truck that came with the 157-amp unit; that is exactly the job Ford's 200-amp and 357-amp options were built for. If your truck works stock, a replacement sized to your current load is all it needs.

What we carry

High-output alternators listed for 2011-2022 6.7L trucks, a range that covers 2015-2016: the XDP XD352 HD high-output alternator in a wrinkle black finish, and the Mean Green MG1627 300-amp high-output alternator. The Mean Green part carries its 300-amp rating in its name, nearly double the 157-amp base unit. Check each product page for its full specs and the factory configuration it is built to replace.

Fitment notes

Dual-alternator trucks use a different belt and bracketry than single-alternator trucks. Confirm which setup you have before you order, and match the alternator listing to it. If you are not sure, verify by VIN or call us with your build details.

Frequently asked questions

What amperage did my 2015-2016 truck come with?

The standard alternator is 157 amps. Diesel buyers could option a single 200-amp extra-heavy-duty alternator or dual alternators totaling 357 amps. If your truck has the rapid-heat supplemental cab heater, it has the alternator upgrade.

Will a high-output alternator fit a dual-alternator truck?

Do not assume it will. Dual-alternator trucks use different bracketry and a different belt, JK-81413 instead of the single-alternator JK-81353. Check the product page for the configuration it fits, or call us and we will check it against your VIN.

Should I replace the belt with the alternator?

If the belt or the BT-131 tensioner is worn, doing it while the alternator is out saves you doing the job twice. Just order the right belt for your setup: JK-81353 for one alternator, JK-81413 for two.
