2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Flex Plates

Flex plates and flex plate hardware for the 6R140 behind the 6.7L Powerstroke in 2011-2014 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks. The flex plate ties the crankshaft to the torque converter, and reaching it means the transmission has to come out, so the time to think about it is when the transmission is already out for converter or rebuild work.

Flex plates for the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

On the 6.7L, the flex plate bolts to the back of the crankshaft and the 6R140's torque converter bolts to the flex plate. Everything the engine makes passes through it on the way to a transmission rated for 1,400 lb-ft of input with converter multiplication. The 2011-2014 trucks left the factory with the original single-plate converter, and that converter slips and overheats once power is added. An upgraded converter is one of the parts that solves known 6R140 issues, and when the converter comes out, the flex plate is right there.

Choosing a flex plate

XDP names its plates by duty: the XD660 Tow Series and the XD652 Billet Tow and Race Series. Pick the one that matches how the truck is used. BD Diesel and ATS Diesel Performance each offer a billet flex plate for the 6R140. If the truck is stock and the factory plate looks good, you do not have to replace it just because the transmission is out, but that is the easiest time to inspect it.

What we carry

  • XDP: the XD660 Tow Series Flex Plate, the XD652 Billet Tow and Race Series Flex Plate, and the XD657 Flex Plate Bolt Kit.
  • BD Diesel: the 1041245 Billet Flex Plate, listed for 2011-2019 Powerstroke trucks.
  • ATS Diesel Performance: the 305-900-3368 6R140 Billet Flexplate, listed for 2011-2019 6.7L trucks.

Fitment notes

The plates here are listed for 2011-2019, which covers every 6R140 year, and the XDP bolt kit is listed 2011-2021. The 10R140 ten-speed that replaced the 6R140 for 2020 is a different transmission that shares no converter or valve-body parts, so do not assume a 2020-up part fits your truck. If you are pairing a new flex plate with an aftermarket converter or a complete transmission package, call us and we will check the combination. Verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a billet flex plate on my 6.7L?

It depends on how the truck is used. XDP sells a Tow Series plate and a Billet Tow and Race Series plate, and BD and ATS each offer a billet plate. Match the plate to your towing and power plans, and call the shop if you are unsure.

Should I buy new flex plate bolts?

If you are installing a new plate, new hardware makes sense. XDP offers the XD657 bolt kit, listed for 2011-2021 6.7L trucks, so the plate and bolts can go in together.

When is the best time to replace the flex plate?

When the transmission is already out. The plate sits between the crankshaft and the converter, so the transmission has to come out to reach it. A converter upgrade or a complete transmission swap is the natural time to do it.
