Call or Text (352) 722-5295Transmission filters for the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke
The 6R140 holds 17.4 to 18.5 quarts, with a published service interval of 150,000 miles under normal use and 50,000 miles under severe use. The filter gets changed with the fluid. Service matters on this transmission: skipped service is one of the common 6R140 failures, and the classic shift complaint starts with debris from normal wear sticking the 1-2-3-4 control valve. That is why the standard advice is fluid and filter first, then solenoids and harness, before anyone condemns the valve body.
What we carry
This collection holds the BD Diesel 1064046 Transmission Filter Service Kit, listed for 2011-2022 Powerstroke trucks. Check the product page for exactly what comes in the kit before you plan the job. Fluid, pans and gaskets live in the other 6R140 transmission collections.
Stock replacement vs. upgrade
A filter is a service item, not an upgrade. What changes with upgrades is how much fluid you buy. If you have added a deep aftermarket pan, you are running more fluid than stock, because deep pans add capacity over the cost-built factory pan. Plan your fluid order around the pan you actually have.
Fitment notes
The BD kit's 2011-2022 listing covers every 2011-2014 6.7L truck. If you also run a 2020-up Super Duty, remember it has the 10R140 ten-speed, a different transmission that shares no converter or valve-body parts with the 6R140, so confirm the kit for that truck on the product page. On 4x4 trucks the transfer case is a separate service on the same 150,000/50,000-mile schedule. Verify by VIN when in doubt.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I change the 6R140 filter?
Change it with the fluid. The published interval is 150,000 miles normal and 50,000 miles severe. If the truck already has harsh shifts or ratio codes, a fluid and filter service is the first step regardless of mileage.
What filter does a 2011-2014 6.7L transmission take?
The 6R140 uses a Motorcraft FT-187 filter. The BD Diesel 1064046 kit on this page is a service kit listed for 2011-2022 Powerstroke trucks. Check its product page for contents before you order.
Will a new filter fix harsh shifting?
It is the right place to start. Harsh shifts and a 2-3 flare can trace to valve-body debris, a worn TCC boost valve bore or dead solenoids. Fluid and filter come first, then a solenoid and harness refresh, before anyone condemns the valve body.
