2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Hitch Accessories

Hitch balls and reducer sleeves for the 2011-2014 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty with the 6.7L Powerstroke. The point to remember: your towing limit is set by the weakest piece in the chain. The factory 2.5 in receiver is rated up to 14,000 lb with weight distribution on SRW trucks, but the ball has its own rating, and the lower number wins.

Hitch accessories for the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

A ball looks like the simplest part of a towing setup, but on a truck rated like this one it decides a lot. Ford rates the factory 2.5 in receiver on F-250 and F-350 SRW diesels at 14,000 lb with a 1,400 lb tongue when you use a weight distribution hitch, on the 156, 158 and 172 in wheelbase trucks, and at 18,500 lb with an 1,850 lb tongue on F-350 DRW and F-450 trucks. Without weight distribution, the SRW receiver is rated 8,500 lb weight-carrying. A ball that does not match the coupler, or is rated below your trailer, gives all of that back.

Choosing a ball

Three dimensions matter: ball diameter, shank diameter and shank length. The ball diameter has to match the trailer coupler. The shank diameter has to match the hole in your ball mount. The shank has to be long enough to pass through the mount and take the nut with full thread engagement. Then check the ball's rated capacity against your loaded trailer. Reducer sleeves solve the mismatch case: if the hole in your ball mount is larger than the ball's shank, a sleeve takes up the gap so the ball sits tight instead of moving in an oversized hole.

What we carry

B&W Trailer Hitches supplies this collection: B&W hitch balls (BW-THB) and B&W reducer sleeves (BW-RE-SL). Pick the ball listing by ball diameter, shank diameter and rating, then add a sleeve only if your mount's hole is larger than the shank. For ball mounts, receivers, 5th wheels and gooseneck hitches, see the hitches page, and for the rest of this truck, the Powerstroke hub.

Fitment notes

Balls and sleeves are matched to your ball mount and trailer, not to the truck. The truck-specific part is the receiver: it is 2.5 in from the factory, and running a 2 in mount through Ford's 2.5-to-2.0 in adapter lowers the conventional rating to 12,500 lb with a 1,250 lb tongue. If you tow in the bed, the in-bed 7-pin connector comes with Ford's prep package wiring, which is sold separately from the BC3Z-5F057-A crossmember package. On trucks with the integrated trailer brake controller, standard on duallys, the cluster shows gain and trailer status so you can confirm the trailer is connected.

Frequently asked questions

What size hitch ball do I need?

The ball diameter must match your trailer coupler, and the shank must match the hole in your ball mount. Check the ball's rated capacity against your loaded trailer, and remember the truck's rating still applies: 14,000 lb with weight distribution on the longer-wheelbase F-250 and F-350 SRW diesels.

What does a reducer sleeve do?

It fills the gap when the ball's shank is smaller than the hole in the ball mount, so the ball sits tight. B&W sells them as BW-RE-SL to go with its hitch balls.

Is a hitch ball specific to my 2011-2014 F-250 or F-350?

No. A ball is matched to the ball mount and the trailer, not the truck. What is truck-specific is the receiver and its rating, including the fact that a 2 in mount in the factory 2.5 in receiver needs the adapter that drops the rating to 12,500 lb.
