2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke Exhaust Manifolds

Exhaust manifolds, gaskets and hardware for 2011-2014 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty trucks with the 6.7L Powerstroke. This is where the exhaust on these trucks gives the most trouble. Broken manifold studs are documented by Ford in SSM 50330, and the fix is new studs, spacers and heat shields, not a re-torque.

Exhaust manifolds on the 2011-2014 Ford 6.7L Powerstroke

The 6.7L Powerstroke turned the usual diesel layout inside out. Its aluminum heads are reverse-flow, with the intake ports on the outboard side and the exhaust ports facing the valley. That puts both exhaust manifolds down in the valley, where they feed short up-pipes to the valley-mounted turbo. Ford's factory manifolds are DC3Z-9430-A on the right and DC3Z-9431-A on the left, sealed with gasket FC3Z-9448-A and held with studs, nut W701706-S430, spacer FC3Z-00810-A and heat shields FC3Z-9Y427-A (left) and DC3Z-9A462-B (right).

What fails and why

Broken exhaust manifold studs on 2011-2014 Super Duty 6.7L trucks cause exhaust leaks, and Ford's SSM 50330 calls for replacing the manifold on the affected side with new studs. Cylinders 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 take stud W715713-S431. Cylinders 4 and 8 take W717172-S900 and need new spacers and heat shields. BD Diesel puts the root cause on thin factory castings that lose clamp load through heat cycling, which leads to leaks and cracks. It is heat-cycle related and tends to show up at mid to high mileage.

The symptoms are easy to learn: a tick on cold start, exhaust smell, soot streaks at the manifold joints, slower spool and higher EGT. Because the leak is upstream of the turbo, the truck can also lug, respond lazily and feel like the transmission is hunting.

Stock replacement vs. upgrade

When only a stud has failed, the OEM-style stud, gasket and heat-shield repair per SSM 50330 is the correct fix; re-torquing is not. When a manifold is cracked or you are replacing it anyway, the heavy-duty route makes sense. BD Diesel's 1043007 kit uses 0.275 in thick ductile-iron castings, 75 percent thicker than stock, with longer stud and spacer hardware designed to hold clamp load through heat cycles. That goes straight at the cause BD identifies in the factory parts.

What we carry

BD Diesel offers the 1043007 manifold kit, the 1043005 right-side manifold listed for 2011-2014 and the 1043006 left-side manifold listed for 2011-2019. SPE Motorsport has the S100189 driver's-side manifold and S100313 CNC-machined exhaust manifold flanges with EGT. Dorman sells exhaust manifold hardware kits in 70 mm (675-223) and 85.2 mm (675-224) lengths, listed for 2011-2022. Mahle supplies the MS19880 exhaust manifold gasket set for 2011-2014. More parts are in the full exhaust category.

Fitment notes

The passenger-side manifold changed with Ford's 2015 GT37 turbo, along with the up-pipes and downpipe. That is why BD's right-side manifold stops at 2014 while its left side runs through 2019. If your 2011-2014 has a GT37 retrofit, it takes 2015-2016 exhaust-side parts. Hardware is position-specific: cylinders 4 and 8 use a different stud with new spacers and heat shields, so order for the positions you are servicing. Check the length on Dorman's kits against your studs. Chassis cabs run a different turbo through 2016, so confirm the listing. Verify by VIN.

Frequently asked questions

Which manifold studs are different on the 6.7L?

Cylinders 4 and 8. Per SSM 50330, those positions use stud W717172-S900 and need new spacers and heat shields when serviced. Cylinders 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 and 7 use W715713-S431.

Why is BD's right-side manifold listed for 2011-2014 only?

The passenger-side manifold changed with Ford's 2015 GT37 turbo, along with the up-pipes and downpipe. The left side carried over, which is why BD's 1043006 is listed through 2019. A 2011-2014 with a GT37 retrofit takes the 2015-2016 passenger-side part.

Is a heavy-duty manifold worth it over a factory replacement?

If you are replacing a manifold, it is worth a look. BD traces 6.7L manifold leaks and cracks to thin factory castings losing clamp load, and its 1043007 kit answers that with castings 75 percent thicker than stock and longer stud and spacer hardware. If only a stud broke, the SSM 50330 hardware repair is the correct fix.
