2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke Flex Plates

This collection holds flex plates and flex plate hardware for 2008-2010 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 Super Duty trucks with the 6.4L Powerstroke and the 5R110W automatic. The flex plate only comes out with the transmission, so the time to decide on one is whenever a converter swap or transmission job is already on the calendar.

Flex plates for the 2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke

The flex plate bolts to the back of the crankshaft and the torque converter bolts to the flex plate, so all of the 6.4L's torque passes through it on the way to the 5R110W. In an F-250 or F-350 pickup that is 650 lb-ft from the factory. Ford's converter on this truck is a stamped-steel, single-disc design that slips and sheds debris, and it is the first part to let go once torque goes up. When you replace or upgrade the converter, the transmission is already out and the flex plate is right there. More parts for this engine are on the Powerstroke hub.

Choosing a flex plate

If the truck is staying close to stock and the plate is being replaced during other work, a tow-rated plate listed for the 6.4L is the straightforward pick. If you are stepping up to a heavy-duty multi-disc billet converter or a built 5R110W because you tow heavy or have added power, a billet plate matches the rest of the build. Add fresh mounting hardware to the order so the job is done once. Remember that converter work also means a new transmission cooler and a relearn.

What we carry

XDP MFG offers the XD659 Tow Series flex plate and the XD650 Billet Tow and Race Series flex plate, both listed for 2008-2010 6.4L trucks, plus the XD655 flex plate bolt kit listed for the 2003-2010 6.0L and 6.4L. BD Diesel offers its 1041240 billet flex plate for 2008-2010 Power Stroke trucks.

Fitment notes

Read the engine in each title. The XDP XD651 Billet Tow and Race flex plate appears in this collection but is listed for the 2001-2016 6.6L Duramax, so it is not a 6.4L part. Flex plates are an automatic-transmission part, and trucks with the ZF six-speed manual use a different setup. Nothing here carries into the 2011-and-later Super Duty with the 6.7L and 6R140. Verify by VIN before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Which flex plate fits my 2008-2010 6.4L Powerstroke?

The XDP XD659 Tow Series, the XDP XD650 Billet Tow and Race Series and the BD 1041240 billet plate are all listed for 2008-2010 6.4L trucks. The XDP XD651 is a Duramax part. Pick based on how you use the truck, and add the XD655 bolt kit if you want new hardware.

Should I replace the flex plate when I replace the torque converter?

It is the right time to decide, because the transmission has to come out to reach the converter. If you are moving to a heavy-duty multi-disc converter or a built transmission, choose the flex plate at the same time so you are not pulling the transmission twice.
