2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke Gooseneck Hitches

The under-bed gooseneck hitch for the 2008-2010 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 with the 6.4L Powerstroke. This collection carries the B&W Turnoverball. Ford offered no factory fifth-wheel hitch or puck system on this generation, so gooseneck towing starts with a kit bolted under the bed, and the truck's own rating, not the hitch's, sets your limit.

Gooseneck towing on the 2008-2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke

The documented under-bed fit for a 2008 F-350 is B&W's Turnoverball kit BWGNRK1108, rated at 30,000 lb. That is the hitch rating. Your truck's own rating is lower, roughly 15,200 to 24,500 lb depending on axle and configuration. Gross combined weight caps the whole rig: Ford's 2010 guide lists 23,000 lb for SRW trucks with the 3.31 or 3.55, 23,500 lb for a DRW with the 3.73, 26,000 lb for the F-350 DRW TowBoss with the 4.10 and 33,000 lb for the F-450 with the 4.30 and the automatic. Plan your trailer around the truck's numbers, not the hitch's 30,000.

What goes wrong and why

No failure pattern is documented for gooseneck hardware on this generation. The problem is weight in the bed. Pin weight on a gooseneck or fifth-wheel runs about 15 to 25 percent of the trailer, and it counts against the GVWR and rear axle rating on the door label. Skip that step and you get an overloaded rear axle and poor braking. Rear air helper springs take out the squat, but they don't change your door-label ratings.

Why an under-bed turnover ball

The Turnoverball mounts under the bed instead of on top of it. With the ball turned over and stowed, the bed floor is clear for hauling. The same under-bed hitch also accepts fifth-wheel conversion heads, so one install can serve a gooseneck trailer now and a fifth-wheel later. On a work truck that hauls loose cargo between trailer jobs, that keeps the bed usable.

What we carry

This collection carries the B&W Trailer Hitches Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. Under-bed kits are matched to the truck, so confirm the kit listed on the product page against your model, year and bed before ordering. Receivers and ball mounts for bumper-pull trailers are on our main hitches page.

Fitment notes

Ford lists tailgate height for gooseneck and fifth-wheel clearance at about 56-57 in on the F-250, F-350 DRW and F-450 and 59-60 in on the F-350 SRW, which sits about 3 in taller than a dually. Use those figures to check clearance under your trailer's neck. Transmission matters too: with the manual, the F-450 4.30 drops from 33,000 to 27,000 lb GCWR. F-250 and F-350 trucks came with a short box or an 8-ft box, while the F-450 pickup came only as a dually crew cab with the 8-ft box. Read your axle code off the door-jamb label and verify by VIN. Engine parts are under the Powerstroke hub.

Frequently asked questions

Does the B&W Turnoverball fit my 2008-2010 6.4L truck?

BWGNRK1108 is the documented under-bed fit for the 2008 F-350. For other models, years and bed lengths, check the fitment on the product page or call the shop with your VIN. Under-bed kits are truck-specific, so don't guess.

The hitch is rated 30,000 lb. Is that what I can tow?

No. The hitch rating is one link in the chain. Your truck's rating runs roughly 15,200 to 24,500 lb depending on axle and configuration, and GCWR caps the whole combination. The lowest number wins.

Can I pull a fifth-wheel with this gooseneck hitch?

Yes, with a fifth-wheel conversion head that mounts to the B&W Turnoverball. On a short-bed truck, fifth-wheel towing needs a slider for turning clearance, so plan for that when you choose the head.
